Sitting here next to a cozy fire in the wood stove and a cup of Joe this morning has me to thinking about 2018. What a year on 2 wheels and the folks who make our lives so much richer. I'll be posting this in both sandboxes.

Back in April I hauled my KTM and KLR down to Carver's Honderosa for four days of riding the central coast of California with DC. As much fun as we had riding the evenings in his back yard dining and libations with Don and his lovely wife under the stars was the icing on the cake.

June was CFR, it was a first for me to take time off in my busy season but at this point in my life it isn't always about chasing a buck. I was thrilled that my wonderful wife joined me on a journey into another country. We met up with George and Jill in Washington where Rich and Nikki joined us for a wonderful day of riding to eastern Washington and a night of Yahtzee before our border crossing into Canada the next morning. CFR in Nakusp was off the charts fun and friendship. A first for me was taking a rainy day off the bike and hanging out in the hot springs pool with a bunch of motorcycle type people. The conversations flowed freely as we soaked in the warm water surrounded by all the beauty of the Canadian mountains. With 80 plus people from all over North America at CFR we had the pleasure of meeting new folks and bonding with old friends. I cannot thank the Canadian crew enough for all the effort that went into making this event so special, it was one to remember.

September and the Ruben was everything we have come to expect from Ray and his helpers. Last fall a good riding buddy Eric and his wife moved to Florence Oregon so this year was a good reason to haul my KTM up the coast with my wife where Eric and I left the girls to play while we rode over to LaPine and the Ruben. I enjoyed meeting the 911's and the Petrodactyl guy and his better half plus once again seeing past friends and some new ones too. Thanks Ray!

On the way home my bride informed me she was done riding LD for this year but I was welcome to go where ever I wanted as long as she didn't have to go. Shortly after the Ruben I get a text from Pants to the effect of when am I going to drop by for a visit. Game on! This will be the motorcycle adventure we all like.

Hooterville was calling me again so with some planning I was out the door on the Hippo for a little ride back east. After a stop at Canyonlands in Utah the weather had hit Colorado so I enjoyed a brisk ride on hwy 141 down to New Mexico and across the farmland of west Texas. With light rain and the mud on the roads from the farm equipment it was a shall we say... entertaining? !

I stopped for a visit with Vi, Petey's wife. She is such a hoot, likes to hear about Petey's motorcycle friends. For you guys who know her, please make an effort to stop by and visit. It will do you and her lots of good. Before I left she asked me if there was anything I could use from his collection of tools and gear. We spent some time looking through his things where I picked up some tools and a few other items. These all have a special place in my garage and on the bikes. Our time together was too short but I needed to get to Clinton for Hooterville. What happens in Hooterville stays in Hooterville but I can say it's amazing OFace hasn't been committed...yet. Too mush fun...thanks boys!

Sunday Griff and Wheatie with our Sena's paired up gave me a special escort to Huntsville Alabama. It was a great day of riding and conversation indeed. After a tour of the Rocket and Science center I explored northern Alabama a bit and also a visit to Barber motorcycle museum. If you haven't been there yet put it on your bucket list...absolutely amazing.

Now it was time to point the bike southwest for Cajun country. As you may have seen in Pants excellent RR we had a ball. Starting out with an evening of his home made Gumbo with the company of Redfish and Pops plus a few others including Joey's dad (cool dude) I knew my visit was going to be too short. The next day of riding was everything I wanted to see on my first visit to that region on the country.

I did learn from Pants I need to up my hosting game for when peeps stop by my neck of the woods. Thanks my friend.

Time to saddle up and start for home. I like Texas speed limits and spacious four lane roads but I-40 and the trucks suck...but sometimes you do what you gots to do.The reward was spending a night at Zillas house. I have met his better half a few times but not his 3 girls. We all went out to Pizza and friendship. I told him I could get a hotel room but his middle daughter Sophia let me sleep in her room while she crashed in her sisters room. It's been a while since I have slept in a room with pink and purple walls plus a few unicorns....okay, never - that was a first. Thanks AJ, your a blessed man.

I pounded miles with the time change in my favor and made it to Beatty, Nevada just outside of Death Valley National Park. The last day of the journey had me out the door at the crack of dawn and sunrise in Death Valley. Wow...just wow, everything that day was perfect, the weather, very light traffic, fall colors on the eastern side of the Sierra's and no traffic around Lake Tahoe. Perhaps the best day of riding...ever!

Enough rambling but my real point is I am so happy to have all you FJR peeps in our lives. It's the people here that have so enriched my soul.

Thank You!

I too had a fun 2018 starting with retirement on April Fool's day!

Happy Thanksgiving all, find a homeless vet today and buy him or her a meal and say Thanks for Your Service.

Missing two very good buds this day, too.
