Help Please! How do I get the handlebar cores out?

I've figured out the PO of my bike somehow moved the handlebar cores our further than the stock position. The flange surface of the bar end is 8 mm away from the end of the handlebar when it is bolted down tight. So I need to get the cores out and re-position or replace them. Does anybody know how to get these out? I did a search and found an old post on installing a throttlemeister but the picture links are no longer working so it isn't real clear. I'd really appreciate any help somebody can provide.
