How to remove plug in threaded hole next to clutch reservoir

I looked at the parts schematics and it appears the plug does not have threads and should just pop out, but I can't seem to remove it. How have others removed this without damaging the plug or area surrounding hole by scratching them with pliers? I want to mount a smartphone holder in that hole and I know someone has an answer to this. Thanks!

Just gently pried it up with a screwdriver myself.....

Got it! I used a knife to get under the plug then a screwdriver to get that sucker off! Thanks.

That would work, if you have an adapter and cradle to match.
