Hi guy/girls...brief intro.. I had a 2k1 naked naked Bandt I wrecked a couple of weeks ago..while I wait for parts to fix her I bought an 05 FJR with 1200 miles on the clock.

I got a very good deal, and it was pre-farkled. Factory heated grips, stacked Heli Barriisers (2 of em?) (those came right off , as my arms were too far back ..heh) Tmeister Heavies, and a factory topcase. The stealership only knew about the factory case, and said everything else was stock .. :) Who am I to mention the other stuff??

Oh well on with the question..and yes I did search first!

I am a big guy 6'3" ..I assume I have the factory windscreen as it still says Yamaha on it. When I put it in the highest position, it is 'almost' perfect.. ie..no buffeting..I have to crouch down a little bit and it gets quiet. Without the crouch it is pretty loud. I am looking for a very very quiet riding experience in the up position. I have an autocom and mp3/gps/pda, escort 8500, GMRS setup that I like to use, but the problem has been the use of earplugs. I'd love to not have to use them!

so....what is the tallest windscreen I can buy? CB 4+3? cal-sci? the Vstream? or do I need some combo with a laminar lip?

I have already ordered the FZ1 mirrors, and looking at a spring upgrade, as well as a penske rear (I have a Penske guy).

Cee Bailey's sells a +4/+4 (I have one) I'm not sure about the tall Rifle, IIRC, it's +5, but don't quote me on that.

Where are you? as you may have figured out screens are 50% subjective and 50% dependant on rider size. You may have someone near you with a screen that you can check out.

Oh,

And welcome!

I really like my CB +4+2, but I am only 5-9. It provides a very comfortable and quiet ride for me. I don't use it in temps over 90 however, cause it blocks way to much breeze at those temps. Suspect it also prevented the bike from breaking 100 mph in the 1/8 drag races a short while ago.

I just put a Cee Bailey +6 - +4 on my '06. Now it is just right. But then i am 6'6", so the taller the better...

Fhase...I'm the guy from RI that you talked to about the 04 before you found the 05 deal. I have an Cee Bailey 4+2 that you can try on your bike if we can hook up before I sell the 04 (currently listed on Ebay). Give me a call or drop me a line at [email protected] .

I like the California Scientific (Tall) better than the others that I have tried. As a tall rider (6'3 but with a long torso and average inseam), I need a tall windshield raised all or most of the way up to achieve a quite ride on the highway. The C.S. screen has less back pressure (still some) when raised, and the bike feels more stable at speed than with my Cee-Baileys screens in the raised position. This one has vent holes, as well as a tapered shape that decreases frontal area. My shoulders and arms don't get much cold weather protection though because the screen is narrower at the top. I also use two 5/8" long bushing spacers under the windshield mount bracket to tilt the angle down some, and that also adds a little extra airflow under the front/bottom of the shield. So far it has been the best solution for me. If the stock shield almost works for you, you might be able to use the medium height version instead.
