As the title says, is it possible to remove the inner tube/fork oil seal without removing the damper rod assembly first? I'm in the process of replacing a leaking fork seal, and would like to make it as simple as possible. Does removing the damper rod assembly require either an impact wrench or the yamaha shop tool?

You cannot get the old seal out without removing the damper assembly. However, you do not have to take the assy apart.

Read this: fork seals

You do not need to disassemble the tubes if you use the hydraulic press method.

When I replaced seals, bushings, etc. I used an impact wrench, works good!!!

Good luck, depending how many miles you have on your forks since the last service it may be best to replace the bushings/seals/dust covers and obviously the fork oil.
