Friday, September 10, 2010. My wife and I were at my brother's cabin in northern Wisconsin, and took a day to ride up to Porcupine Mountains State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In 1989, 4 riding buddies and I were there, and saw a lot of beautiful territory. However, it rained the whole time we were there, so I wanted to see it in better conditions. My wife had never been there, and I thought she might like the scenery, plus she likes to look for rocks, and there are some decent spots along Lake Superior.
We rode through very pretty forested land with many lakes in northern Wisconsin, and some of the trees were already changing colors. Once in the Porcupine Mountains State Park, we rode up to the Lake of the Clouds overlook for a peek. Yup, just as pretty as I remember. Here's my stunning pillion.....
Here she is again, along Lake Superior....
OK, OK, you're right. This IS, after all, the FJR forum, so here's some gratuitous bike shots......
Last one......she's a fast machine, and the bike goes pretty well too......
If you live in the upper midwest, there are worse places to explore than the Porcupine Mountains. There's miles of hiking trails, and some nice lakefront areas. I know (from my trip 21 years ago) that there a lot of neat waterfalls and rock formations, too, but we were on a limited schedule this day, so just spent a short time there. We'll definitely be back when we can spend more time. It was very uncrowded, since most of the campers and hikers are back to work or back in school. Thanks for letting me share the pictures.....sorry, no food porn....I forgot....ooops!
