My buddy DeShan and I took a little 150 mile ride down to Selma, AL today and then rode over to the archaeological park that is the site of Alabama's first state capitol, Old Cahawba. There's nothing there now except the layout of the old streets and a few remnant foundations. But one can only imagine the history that took place there in the early 1800's.

Here's just a few shots from the day.

The historic Edmund Pettus Bridge in the background.

Then it was on to Old Cahawba, located at the confluence of the Cahaba River and the Alabama River.

Then it was time to head on back to the homestead. We were treated to a beautiful sunset this evening on the way home.

Dayum! That's a good read and pictures too. Thanks for taking time to share. I needs to get to Bama!

Thanks for all of the nice comments everyone!

I'm really enjoying having the new Samsung S7. Takes great pics and with the photos automatically uploaded to my Photobucket account, makes it simple to throw a little report together for the forum and post it up. I really had not even planned to do a "report" on this day ride. But when I got home that evening and started scanning through the pics I realized it might be of interest to folks that have never visited this part of the country. It is very easy to overlook the beauty in your own backyard sometimes.

It most certainly is easy to overlook. Don't know about you, but at least for me, had I not returned to motorcycling, I NEVER would have seen 10% of what I have seen in my home State. The bike makes it an adventure, to be sure.

Great ride report, my friend. I've been through Selma before and it moved me. I've never been the rebellious type. But I have great respect for brave people that look adversity straight in the face, and stand for what is right, even if it is not popular. Seeing that place in 3 dimensions reiterated that in my mind.

One day, we should meet in the middle and go wandering for a couple days. I haven't explored south or south central Alabama much.....
