Welcome! I always wanted a VMax for playing around on. Couldn't justify owning two bikes though. My desire started back when I had a Honda V65 Magna. What year FJR did you get?

I love my 2010 but long distance isn’t what it was made to do.
Welcome. You will love the FJR, I think.
VMax would be a lot of fun but stopping for gas every 100 miles or so with spirited riding would be an annoyance if you really wanted to get somewhere.
(Rated 28.3 mpg with a 4 gallon (15 litre) tank)

Hello All
New to the FJR. Switching from my Vmax to do some traveling. I love my 2010 but long distance isn’t what it was made to do. I’m in central Florida, just saying hi to all.
Always wanted to let a Vmax stretch its legs under me. But going spirited for 250 miles at a crack ain't all that bad...#balance

Welcome fellow former VMaxer!

Had a 2009 that I bought brand new (pre-order) and put 35K on. Fun bike, but between the poor fuel economy and awkward riding position (the scoops) I was ready to move on! Bought a 2013 FJR and never looked back. 2 FJR's later and 100K miles later I can say without a doubt that the FJR, particularly the 2016 I just sold was the BEST motorcycle I ever owned.

I do miss the 2nd gear rolling burnouts the VMax would do thou.......

Ironically I too owned a V65 (84). But in 85 I saw an 85 Vmax on the road. Fell in love instantly, bought an 85 in March of 86, I still have it and will be passing it on to my youngest son. Bought the 2010 new and road it to the Smoky Mountains every year, I’ll didn’t give a crap about the gas mileage, it cost 10 X that doing anything close to as fun as riding it. I’ll miss it.
I bought the 2017 in St. Augustine last week and lost the keys on the way back home. Not going to get into that, you all think I’m a dork.
Good day and thanks for the replies.

I traded my ‘86 Magna V65 in 2003 for the first FJR1300 my local dealer was able to order (that is when the FJR became available in the U.S.). Like the OP, I loved the Magna but with 100 mile gaps between fuel stops, no place to pack, and little room left behind me for my wife, it was not the right bike for 1-2 week long rides. The FJR was the solution to all my gripes. I do miss the sound of that V4 though! However, the sound of the Leo Vince Titanium cans on my '06 is also nice, and had gotten many compliments.

Hi all. Also new to posting here, but been following for a year or so. I also am a former V65 owner. But after 11 years, 3 engines and 100,000 miles, it too was too small for the Wife and me. I was also tired of working on it, lol. So now we have a 2018. Bought brand new. It has just shy 30,000 miles on. I do love it, but being over 60, I don’t like the top heavy feel at lights n signs. And I do have one question for everyone. Last week when I stopped for gas before heading to work, my oil light came on. So after I got gas I also got a quart of oil and topped her off. Maybe just a little too full! Went 25 miles to Pittsburgh and checked the oil when I got there. Still good. After work came back home 25 miles and now the oil level is right in the middle of the sight glass. The bike has been sitting in the garage on the center stand for a week now. No puddles have developed under it. Any suggestions? Thanks to all and I really love the information you guys give out.

The Gen II VMax is the only motorcycle that has made me giggle to myself like a little schoolgirl inside my helmet. First and second gear WOT is also the only thing that has ever truly scared me on a motorcycle. Thank God those were all short demo rides. If I owned one, I think I would be in trouble.

I owned an 83 V65 that was so much fun to ride. My wife didn't like the back seat either. I also owned an 82 XJ100 at the same time, and always wanted an FJ, just never got one....Next week I will finally own an FJR1300 for the first time, after pineing for one for 19 years, I can't wait!!! Keep up those awesome ride stories. I will post my 800+ mile ride home next week!
