The part is shown upside down. There are two of those little buggers. At the bottom of the fuel tank, at the front of the tank one on each side slides on the ridge around the bottom of the tank. If you go look at your bike you should be able to see the other one (assuming that it hasn't been lost too) on the tank edge. They work as bumpers between the tank and the frame.

I hadn't looked at the tank as I wasn't ready to put it back on (3/4 full so I took it off) and wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to tear everything back apart once I figured out its location.
