If anyone has installed on e of these on an gen 1 FJR1300abs, I would love to confirm a few connections at the ecu. Thanx, Ed

I assume you are referring to the Speedo healer?
Here is the FJR (Gen II) install tutorial from the website.

Clicky

No, sorry, I am installing the gipro - gear position indicator. I haven't been able to find a tutorial anywhere.

Surprisingly, you seem to be a leader on this one. The Healtech site doesn't offer any technical info on the install so you are going to have to help us help you. Any info that Healtech sent you on connections will help us sort through the ECU wires.

It is interesting that Healtech says that they can read the gear info straight from the ECU! I am not aware that the Gen I FJRs have an ECU pin with this data so I'm all ears as to what signal their gizmo is looking for. Looking at the bike models and years supported I didn't see the FJR listed, nor did I search real hard.

Since there is apparently no how-to in this Forum plus not seeing the FJR listed in supported models may be a telling piece of information.

All most of those gear position indicators do is compare the speedometer signal with engine rpms. Somehow you get it to learn the various ratios (or I suppose it could do it on its own) and it displays a gear number. So it doesn't need the ECU to explicitly tell it what gear it is in.

Their site mentions a gear position indicator (GIPRO DS-series) that DOES get the gear info direct from the ECU, but on the description page it mentions a number of other makes (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, and Harley-Davidson) but not Yamaha. The other GIPRO variants presumably work as I described above.

I just went back and looked at the Healtech site and found the answer. The DS series of gear indicators are for bikes with a Diagnostic System connector. Which the FJR does not have. The only product that they offer for the FJR is the Speed Healer.

edjo69, I think you gots a problem.

I don't think the original poster said he had the DS series, I did go back through the thead and look to see if he mentioned it. If he does, yes, he has a problem. If it's one of the other models there's no reason to think it wouldn't work with the right wires hooked up, although for sure he's not going to get plug-and-play.

I went to the Products and Downloads, entered Yamaha, FJR ABS, '05 and the only product that came up were the Speed Healer and the GPX-U01 Harness.

If edjo69 is using the U01 harness, the tach connection (U01 green wire) will tap into either the solid orange wire or the gray/red wire; the coil signals. For my AVCC I made a "T" connection and tapped the gray/red wire right at the coil so I could avoid tapping or cutting the wire at the ECU.

The speedo connection (U01 white wire) would tap into the solid gray wire coming off of the crankshaft position sensor, per Healtech instructions.

I got a GI Pro X-type: https://www.healtech-electronics.com/downlo...-X_Intro_en.pdf

according to the harness directions (gpx-uo1) it needs:

red: 12v switched power (no problem)

black: ground (no problem)

white: speed sensor from ecu

green: crankshaft sensor

these last two items are the problem, if I look at my wiring schematic there are 3 wires going to the speed sensor and 2 to the crankshaft sensor, how do I know which wires to pic?

Gray wire on the crank sensor, and the middle wire (can't figure out what color(s) it is supposed to be) here on the speed sensor:

Going by this wiring diagram:

https://www.fjr1300.info/misc/FJR-wiring.pdf

The clues as to which wire to use are looking at what the other wires to each sensor are hooked up to. Lots of common connections sort of implies it's a voltage rail.

No guarantees but that's what I would do. Good luck.

Thanx allot, I will go with the grey wire for the crankshaft and it looks like whit with yellow bands for the speed sensor. I will post my setup once I get it wired and installed. Thanx for the help guys, Ed

Hi: I'm looking at purchasing the GI Pro also. Did you figure out the wiring? I have a 2005 and would love to have an indicator so that I can stop looking for a 6th gear.

I had the same problem with my 2005 ABS hooking up the white wire from the supplied G1 Pro harness. The service shop tied in the white wire to the yellow/green wire.....all the other wires were fine and connected correctly. I got a signal to the G1 Pro unit but it never read past 1st gear. After reading this post, I removed my white wire lead from the yellow/green and hooked it up to the correct wire....white with yellow band.....now all is well. Thanks for your post. :yahoo:
