EOM 2016 Location Discussion

I am hoping that someone can save me 7 pages of reading to figure out when, where, what accommodations, and how much. Will there be another thread, or perhaps the 1st post will be edited with the information?
I'm new here, and would like to attend. September is great - it does not conflict with my Suzuki meet in June.

This thread is titled DISCUSSION. I would expect that sometime over the next few months there will be a thread titled ANNOUNCEMENT with sufficient time for (most) people to reserve vacation time, make reservations, save beer money and wash their bike. It's amazing that anybody would take on organizing these events and try to find the path which displeases the fewest people. I assure you that it will take you a lot less time to quickly scan the DISCUSSION than it will take the person volunteering their personal time to make the arrangements so that all we have to do is show up in the same place at the same time

I understand. I am peripherally involved with a meet from another forum. Those who organize the meets are dedicated individuals who seem to enjoy spending a lot of time to ensure that others enjoy themselves. I am very appreciative of the effort that goes into these events. I will offer to lend assistance if I am able... the organizer(s) can PM me.

I have skimmed the thread, but so far as dates, it would appear that is still under consideration. Also, my interpretation of what has been discussed misled me into believing that Wytheville was chosen for the location. So, I'll subscribe to the thread and watch for additional information!

Just pointing out that there's a lot of good stuff in that area...and no more vast fields of corn between me and EOM.

Ok – here is the where we are.

The date will be 22 – 25 September 2016 – those are the dates that I polled the venues for availability.

Here are the two locations that have availability and meet the basic requirements to host the event.

1 – Lewisburg, WV – Quality Inn – same as 2015 – room rates will be $85.99 + 12% tax ($95.19/night); same $200 room fee split into rally fees for banquet and conference rooms. Same amenities – continental breakfast, restaurant / bar on site, gas, food within walking distance

2- Wytheville, VA – Ramada Inn – Room rates for group will be $59.99 +12.3% tax ($67.32/night); Conf room fees are $450 for banquet and registration rooms, continental breakfast, on site restaurant for dinner, banquet space (but off-site catering required).

Riding in either location is good; the VA location puts more of the western NC stuff within reach – the Boone area and others – as well as Lewisburg for the dedicated. Wytheville presents a clear advantage for those on a budget, even if the rally fee will include $5 for the room fees, the cost savings over a 3 night stay are about $83.

Following the poll results, we land in Lewisburg. I want to lock down the location by next week. As always, thoughts, comments, remarks, etc. are all welcome.

So is that "Other"? Purely selfish, but my newest riding plans will cover the Lewisburg area earlier in the year, so Wytheville is good by me. But, no worries, wherever it is, it will be good. We got one of the best disorganizers on the planet.

Either location is fine by me. If I wanna revisit Lewisburg, I can. No Problems there. I just enjoy the hell out of seeing good friends again and the fact that they will all have two wheels, a throttle and a motor under their asses. Can't wait!

That is really what it's all about.

I have to decide. Do I do a 4-5k mile marathon on the FJR that week, or do I drag the DRZ & FJR down and get dirty!!

I'll give them a call. Room rates on the website are significantly higher right now - $129 for basic room + tax. They would need to be willing to provide a group discount that drops those basic rooms into the $75-$90 / night range.

At first glance, routing wise, it appears that there are limited paths to desirable roads. Except for the BRP, everything else is west / north. Options to access those areas west look to include some slab time of some sort on I-81.

Is there anyone here who is local to this area that can offer some more info regarding potential ride loops??

How far is Wytheville from Staunton or Blacksburg? I have some routes from those areas

I voted for Lewisburg as the wife and I liked the area but the weather limited just how much actual riding we got to enjoy. We'll still attend if it moves to Wytheville. We learned the best part really was the people! Just let me know where I need to call for rooms!

Stauton is about 150, Blacksburg is about 50. Blacksburg is within range of Lewisburg as well, with a nice run up and over Potts Mtn.
