    altitude problem revisited

Oh well, it's a damn great shield, and I have tried a few.

    altitude problem revisited

I had serious bucking problems with my 2009. I went up to 8000 feet and the bucking was so bad that I had to coast downhill to a lower altitude. The dealer said it was bad gas. BS. I haven't had the time to get to altitude to try it again. Living in west Los Angeles, there isn't a lot of...

09 is surging bad at altitude, less at sea level

Thanks to everyone. I really appreciate the excellent suggestions. Dean

09 is surging bad at altitude, less at sea level

Sorry if I was unclear. The bike runs terribly at altitude, i.e. have to feather the clutch or its a bronco; and runs just okay at sea level, with surging. At sea level, I could not get the rpms to remain stable by holding a fixed throttle position. It surges + or - 200 rpm at, for example...

09 is surging bad at altitude, less at sea level

Thanks. I have done some electrical work which required adding connectors to the battery. I will take a look and try some Sea Foam. I am not sure how to add Sea Foam by "direct injection." Any explanation appreciated. Dean

09 is surging bad at altitude, less at sea level

Hi, I have an '09 that is running poorly. I took it to 8000 feet and it surged and bucked like crazy. I had to basically put it in neutral and coast downhill. I took it to the dealer and he checked the chip and said that it was the appropriate chip and I probably had a bad tank of gas. I...

On the Ball Mechanic in L.A.?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated. I need to find a mechanic a little closer to to the greater L.A. area, preferable towards Santa Monica or the West Valley.

On the Ball Mechanic in L.A.?

My 2009 is running crappy. I took it from L.A. to Lone Pine and up to Whitney Portal at 8000 feet. Woa! Big time surging. It even surges at sea level and seems to hic-up sometimes, when I roll on the throttle. I haven't been riding it much so maybe I gummed up the injectors? I don't know...

2009 FJR and Windshield Spacers? No Way?

That's true. The hole alignment will be different. Sorry about not mentioning that.

2009 FJR and Windshield Spacers? No Way?

I just spoke with Rifle. The angle optimizers WILL fit a '09 bike. I spoke with Gary, who was super helpful, he mentioned I could come by Atascadero and check it out. I may just do that.

2009 FJR and Windshield Spacers? No Way?

Here is a diagram from Rifle showing the installation of the angle optimizers for '06 (the kit is listed as '06-'09). The "W" sure looks like the one on my '09. Richard, are you sure it won't work? https://www.rifle.com/pdf/rifle_fjr06_winds...nstructions.pdf

Rifle Shield With Angle Optimizer for '09

I am going to take the ride suggested by Lawrence. I noticed that Rifle's offices are in Atascadero, which is somewhat on the way from SoCal where I live. I may try and drop by and see if the Rifle with angle optimizers wil work on my '09. I will keep you all posted. Glad to met you...

2009 FJR and Windshield Spacers? No Way?

Richard, You made the holes larger in the metal "W" bracket where the arms attach? I am thinking maybe the holes the arms themselves were elongated? Is the shield still stable? Thanks. Dean

Rifle Shield With Angle Optimizer for '09

Its windshield week for me so I apologize for multiple posts. I have a '09. Its got the new '09 one piece metal "W" bracket that the shield mounts to. Hence, no possibility of angling the shield more towards the rider with spacers. I'm 6-1" with a 31" inseam. I am looking for long riding...

2009 FJR and Windshield Spacers? No Way?

Merry Christmas fellow farkelers, I wanted to try some windshield spacers on my 2009. I read the threads and looked at the photos. I read the stuff about spacers possibly causing frame damage by rubbing. On my 2009, it looks like I have plenty of clearance between all portions of the moving...

    CalSci Shield and Laminar Lip

Thanks. Very helpful information. I checked my CalSci invoice. I did order the XL. I have found that the laminar lip usually does help. I may pay them a visit and see if they have a close fit. Please keep us posted on your experiments and I will do the same.

    CalSci Shield and Laminar Lip

Just to be clear. Was the lip you used compatible with the stock shield and then you tried it on the CalSci? If so, maybe a different lip would work better with the CalSci shield. I am about one hour ride from laminarlip and could see if they can find a better fit for the CalSci. I agree...

    CalSci Shield and Laminar Lip

My Screen is 23" measured from the bottom peak of the "w" bracked to the top of the shield. I am 6-1" with a 31 inch inseam. I like to sit up with good posture slightly bent forward--rather than being hunched over. I find that with the CalSci I have to hunch forward and really scoot forward...

    CalSci Shield and Laminar Lip

Hi, I am running a CalSci shield on my '08. For me at 6-1, its better than the stock or a VStream. I am still getting more noise (I wear earplugs) and turbulence than I would like. I find my self hunching down on the freeway more than I would like. I have had good experiences with the...

2009 FJR, VStream and Skyway Spacer Kit?

At 6-1, 31" inseam, the Vstream is a big improvement over the stock shield. However, as someone pointed out in an earlier thread, there is a difference between riding around town and long highway rides. I still get more noise and turbulence than I would like (I always wear ear plugs). Anyway...
