    Vacation solo trip

Kind of funny. I, too, have a 2007 FJR (although with a proper manual transmission with clutch, sorry). And also just put an Ohlins shock on the rear. And used to live near Easley (Clemson), and then moved to Savannah after that. Now in Sacramento, and not missing the humidity.

Goodbye, 2017. Brekkie and a Ride? Sacramento Area weenies?

Wish I would have seen this earlier - I'm down the road by Sac State and would have enjoyed the ride. Next time - maybe after my new shock/spring arrives and gets installed... Paul

    2006 FJR fork springs

I just installed Ohlins springs (1.0 kg/mm, i.e. 10 N/mm; 210 lb rider) while doing the fork oil change in my bike (2007 model). Very easy since they are exactly the same length as the OEM springs, and the disassembly required to swap them out is minimal (and required anyway, to measure fork oil...

Anyone using the GenII/GenIII seat from Seat concepts?

I put the seat concepts kit on my fjr about a year ago. I had their kit on my klr250, and it was a huge improvement. I also quite like the results on the fjr. Looks good, and a noticeable improvement at a reasonable cost. I wished for new foam front and rear, but rear was unavailable. So I got...

    Crap response from Gerbing

I've had good service from Gerbings - I had to send gloves back once (they were replaced with new pair), and also had a minor problem with my heated jacket liner, which they repaired, both at no cost to me other than one-way shipping. Elapsed time was pretty reasonable, too.

    190/50R17 PR3 installed

No, I don't get five years out of tires - I bought my '07 (built 12/06) in 2010, with 1200 miles on it, and the original tires. I put ~150 miles on the new tires today. South Georgia, so no hills and not many curves - can't say that I could notice the difference in tire size. New tire looks...

    190/50R17 PR3 installed

Theoretically, the 190/50 should be ~8 mm less outside diameter than a 180/55. And less than half an inch wider. I didn't try to measure. The change in diameter should introduce about a 1% speedo error (with new tire, actual speed would be 1% less than with old tire, at same rpms). Or another...

    Heated grips

I went with the factory grips, despite the cost, mostly because the wiring was already in place ('07 A-model) and there was a spot waiting for the controller. Installation was pretty easy, and the wiring in particular was a no-brainer. I installed aftermarket heated grips on my other bike, but...

    190/50R17 PR3 installed

Due to a shipping slip-up, I wound up with a pilot road 3 in size 190/50 rather than the requested 180/55. I went online and saw a few posts about this tire size on a feejer, with some suggesting it would not work. But I decided to give it a try. So I can add one more data point: the tire went...

A detailed pictorial clutch soak "how to"

Just to add one more data point: 2007 FJR with only about 4k miles. Got it a few months ago with 1k on it, and shifting seemed clunky. Clutch would not always disengage immediately when lever was pulled. Did the clutch soak today. Inner and outer disks were oily; most of the rest were...
