    Performance award

As regards laser, the beam's a metre wide at 1,000 metres. Get in close and it's pencil-thin. So basically it's lane-specific out to 1,000 metres... If a Lidar detector chirps, you've already been ranged. John.

    auto cam chain tensioner

I'm not sure that I follow the last post. It is said that HDEO's do nothing special for a wet clutch bike application yet Shell RTS is a way to "play it safe." Shell RTS is very much an HDEO. I use it in both the FJR and my diesel Jeep. It's one hell of a robust oil and a terrific value using...

squid caused accident in front of me

Very well done. Nicely played & good karma coming your way. You'ld want somebody to do that for you should some asshat ruin your day. Sleep comfortably tonight knowing that you did good for some poor bastards who would be out in the cold, but for you. All people ever see is twits like this that...

    Gen II Luggage Racks

Hey there, Also interested in a smaller one with a back rest. My machine's a 1st gen, however. Would need it in liquid silver... And thanks! John.

    Luxeon leds and the FJR

A lot of flashlights are using Luxeon heads these days, including Surefire. VERY bright stuff (have a couple of 'em). Would have to be careful with that stuff I would think. Might be awfully bright for marker lights. I dunno for sure but I do know that they are blinding in a flashlight. John.

Soltek HID Light Kit Night Photo's

Side stand or center stand on ferryboat?

I've taken bikes (including the FJR) across the Gulf from Newfoundland a bunch of times. Likely the wildest water that any of you would ever encounter (I stand to be corrected, but I doubt it). I have taken good advice from the deck hands. Put it onto the sidestand as has been mentioned...

    Armed Riders

Gotta love Airweights... 'specially the 638. The humpy is so ugly it looks good. John.

    No High Beams?

I was digging through the search feature to see if I could see how to resolve my issue with my headlights. I went to activate my high beams a few evenings ago and they turned off completely. The high beam indicator stayed lit as if they high beams had come on. The lights both went out when I...

    Radar Detector-Does It Exist??

The latest sniffers get them all. Werd. You will get nailed in NB which has 'em. Not sure about NS. Save your money for farkles! John.

Stay the f@)#(* away from me...

Thanks for sharing a bit about your friend. Without that we would not know much about the man other than the way some puke ended it. That just ain't right - even in this very large world of ours. Seems like the guy lived well. So thanks for that! I would be pleased to have you show me around...

Diablo Strada Regular and E-series rear tires

Curious as well. Have a set of Stradas lying in wait in the shed. Love the Avons but the rear is wearing and getting a bit heavy on turn-in. John.

    The Jestal Chronicles

Water!? Good Lord man...! The next thing one knows you'll be adding Coca Cola. Apparently all the rage in Deutchland these days. Ick. Oh, and yippee about the unbunched panties and such sort... John.

    Throttle Rocker

I believe that they are selling the older style at Alaskan leathers as well. I am interested in getting one when I order a black sheepskin soon. Many mention that a particular size works better than others. How so? Don't wanna get something too long or wide (or too small, for that matter)...

    CFR Discussion Kickoff

Will have to see what's up with this. Still juggling a moose hunting trip in Nfld... John.

To Warm Up or Not to Warm Up

Excessive idling is only gonna dump too much fuel into the oil. Let the ride be the warm-up with a restrained throttle hand until such time as there is some heat built up into the oil... Seems common sense to me. John.

2008 FJR1300 - Dear Yamaha, this is what we want.

Surprised nobody has mentioned a black colour option. The R1 red is tits, too. Less weight. That's about it. Dropping weight ain't cheap... John.

Any Vstrom Owners? Past or Present

Wife lets me ride her Wee-Strom when I'm nice to her. Has a set of factory heated grips & guards. I put a set of Givi engine guards & a SW-Motech centre-stand on it. The windshield sucks & should really be replaced. Have not felt the need to add risers any time soon but it may make it a bit...

I love my wife's Wee-Strom. I use it more than she ever does! John.

    Alaskan Trip Photos

Nice to see your photographs! Thanks for sharing. That brings me back to when I used to run those roads... Stayed at the King Eddie lots. Used to sled up the Salmon Glacier and run the ice sheet that spawns it. Appers that you never got in to Telegraph Creek. That's one of my favourite places...
