This may have been discussed but I couldn't find it so I thought I'd post my findings after cutting vent holes into my 2005 stock windshield. The buffeting, turbulence, and noise for Gen I windshield has been well characterized in this forum: so no need for me to talk about that.
I am 5'10" and have a Russell Day Long seat. I decided to cut 2 vents into my windshield like the ones shown in discussion : https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/7434-mod-to-ceebailey-windscreen/page-4?hl=windshield%20template .
Tested my modified shield at 40 & 80 mph in the rain.
Here's my results:
1. Much less buffeting in low & high positions.
2. A little bit less noise in all positions.
3. In low position, wind and rain blew up the backside of the windshield.
4. In high position, wind and rain blew directly at my clutch and brake reservoirs on the handlebar.
5. The dash and gauges got a little more wet than usual. (I don't have any elect. farkles so it doesn't bother me.)
6. Back pressure was drastically reduced in all positions and any speed from 40-80 mph.
Conclusion:
1. I like the new mod.
2. Best suited for summer riding but not bad for winter either.
Hope this helps,
-Ken
