I tried to reinstall my aux can (again) on my Audiovox cc. I can't remember (again) the settings of the dip switches at the back. It either doesn't want to work, or it tries to run away with me. As in there seems to be way too much suction now.

What settings are we supposed to use? 2 and 7 on?

Thanks!

EDIT: This was concerning my 2004 FJR, not my 2006 FJRAE.

Thanks Gryph, that helps a bunch!

According to the online pdf manual, it looks like the ON switches should be 1, 4 and 7.

And the jumper should be removed for manual transmittions.

I went home and tried the cruise with the above settings. Since I added back the aux can, and changed my settings, I still don't think it's quite as smooth when engaging as the way I had it before. But it does hold the speed a whole lot better up and down the mountains here in Indiana.

Ok, let's see what else I can screw up..., er..., get in order before EOM.

I saved this sometime ago, it may help:

The results:

Stick with the “Low” sensitivity setting (light vehicles w/high horsepower). The “Medium” setting is MUCH too sensitive, resulting in a lot of snatch-and-jerk throttle commands (hey, I just had to try it....).

The 8000ppm setting does indeed get the “tap-up/down” to about 1mph increments, but it has three serious drawbacks: 1) the cruise won’t engage below about 50mph, 2) it’s extremely slow to engage (15~20 seconds), and it’s very sluggish (throttle inputs seem to lag demand by almost the same amount).

The 2000ppm setting works, and will engage well below the point where the engine starts bucking and spitting, but the tap-up/down control will take several taps to have any noticeable effect.

At the 4000ppm setting, tap-up/down works in about 0.5mph increments (just like the instructions say), and is smooth both in engagement and operation.

Bottom line: If you’re wondering whether changing from your nominal setting, don’t bother.

Hope all this helps the next cruise control guinea pig!

I went back and re-set my dips at 2, 4 and 7 on. That makes the engagement a little less harsh. Maybe I have too much slack in the cable from the servo? Would that cause it to jerk when engaging? Anyway, it seems to work fine with either 1 or 2 turned on and the aux can in place.

I have a lot of slack in mine. The slack does not cause it to jerk on engagement. It takes a long time to pick up, but it is very smooth. For example, if I engage the cruise at 60 mph, then reduce my speed to 58 mph, it will take about 5-10 seconds before I feel the throttle starting to turn in order to speed up to 60. Once at speed, it holds it well and is smooth. I will attempt to reduce the slack this fall.

Have you tried to move the cable by hand? It should move freely with virtually no effort. If there is a kink in the cable or something else causing the cable to bind that might result in a jerk.

A little tip for youse guys-a fuel filter used on FI cars makes a great vac canister, in conjunction with the in-line check valve used on Chev Celebrity windshield washers (remote pump version) GM part number 25523494. ;)

That's a new record for dredging up old posts. Was somebody left hanging or something?
