Hardware plus detector minus cost of one ticket = shot of top-shelf liquor plus beer of choice...sooooo...
Open to suggestions (I have a 2014)
Fluid reservoir cap(s) mount?
Steering stem mount?
"Dash" Mount? (some stock fitment, or aftermarket dash...)
Windshield Mount?
Fairing Mount?
Discuss amongst yourselves...

Had it on the Master Cylinder using a Ram Mount that I bought for a BMW RT... it fit perfectly. It know resides on a shelf along with the GPS and SPOT tracker.

I have learned from experience that it doesn't really matter where you mount the detector as long as you can look down to see the display after it goes off. Some people don't even feel the need to see the detector at all, but I like to see the display while it is alerting. You will never be able to watch it closely enough while riding to rely on visual alerts on the detector alone. You need to either listen to the alerts or add an aftermarket visual alert like this one from Mark Parness. In any case, you need to be sure that the detector you buy has an external headphone jack.

Personally, I use a SENA intercom on my FJR and I listen to the detector and GPS through that. A simpler and much less expensive approach is to simply use a wired headset that fits inside your helmet and plugs into the detector.

I have both devices mounted on a dash shelf with a homemade waterproof 'garage' over the detector to protect it from the weather.

In this picture you can see the detector on the right with my GPS in the back on the left and my spot tracker on the RAM ball mount in the foreground. The device strapped to the left handlebar is a SENA hub that I plug the GPS and detector into. The hub communicates with my SENA headset via Bluetooth.

My RD mounting location is kind of unique. It is inside of the small rectangular Cordura case, Velcro attached to the top of the Bags Connection tank bag.

The RD is just an old Escort Passport 8500, long overdue for an upgrade. When I do the new one will be mounted back in the same place.

Inside the tank bag is my Starcom1 intercom and the DC Power source for all of my gadgets, with a single power cable into the bag (from battery tender cable). So the power and audio cables for the RD just need to run from the tank bag lid down inside. Neat and tidy. I use the audio only for alerts, and that has worked fine. You can tell how close and what band they are on by the tone and beeping rate.

I like using the Cordura bag because it (somewhat) disguises it from being a Radar Detector to casual observers. Being on top of my tank bag, when it rains I just pull the big shower-cap type rain cover over the whole thing.

Using the cordura cover does mean that optical Laser Detection is inoperative. I think that is OK since Laser Detectors usually only tell you when it is time to pull over to collect your award. I can also take it out of the Cordura bag, since the bottom of the RD also has Velcro on it (it is Velcro-ed inside the bag so it doesn't move around)

I have three street motorcycles in the garage right now, each of them is outfitted with a Bags Connection tank ring, so that tank bag can be quickly switched between the three depending on what I feel like riding, allowing me to use the same electronics on all three bikes very easily.

V1 in a weatherproof case via a RAM mount over the right side brake fluid holder, with a Speed Cheetah RF connection to the helmet. One of the primary reasons for the mounting location is to be able to detect rearward-facing threats as well as the forward ones.

Same principle with me. Right-side also works a bit better for viewing the angled front of the V1.

Which weather proof case for the V1?

I'm trying to mesh placement for 360 degree detection and audio acuity. I don't care if I see it...I have a sena smh10 Bluetooth. Do I need to invent something here?

No cables, wires, etc...

Just a detector with 360 clearance and a wireless audio alert via Bluetooth ...is that too much to ask??

Perhaps...

I have an N Line that's no longer sold. If I didn't have one I'd probably use one of the blow mold covers made by legalspeeding.com. Cheap and effective....given a dose of silicone sealant.

Going from an analog audio output on the V1 isn't about inventing something...it's about the myriad of ways that can be done, many are about integrating more than just V1 audio, and there isn't a universal blueprint on how to to do it. I've been working for 10 years and am at the pinnacle of innovation for my own single application....which is to say....different than everybody else.

I don't think legal speeding does those blow molded cases anymore. I lost the upper half of mine (top blew off when I forgot to strap it down) and they no longer sell them.

They do seem to still sell their "Radar Box" but that doesn't seems to be as elegant or cost effective as the old clear cases were.

Bummer. I guess the two I have that are scuffed, yellowing, and frayed along the edges stay in my inventory with some dabs of silicone.

Magnet is the only way to go.

I'm using the same mount. But took the ball off and bolted it square in the middle of my nline dash shelf. Now I'd like to find a water proof box.

I had (still have) two of the RAM Power Plate magnetic mounts. Be aware that it won't hold the detector when the going gets rough without adding a strap of some kind. Forgot to put the strap on one day and then hit a pothole in the middle of I-81 in Wilkes Barre PA. Detector went flying and I thought it was lost (wasn't going back to look along side the busy highway). When we stopped for the night just up the road I heard something bouncing around down inside the faring, sure enough it was my old Passport RD.

I stopped using the magmont and switched to a big chunk of velcro as it seem to actually hold the detector more securely and is lighter weight (mounted on the lid of my tank bag, the weight really matters)
