On Monday Ladd (aka Beachy) his son Sam and I hooked up for some twisty riding and leaf peeping in the NC/TN Highlands. Of course, the roads are superb and we even discovered a new to us 8 mile twisty run that earns a place in the local knowledge vault.
The crew, Ladd and son Sam.
We headed up NC181, one of the finest sweeper roads I know of, and got a view from top looking out over the Brown Mountain Lights area. It's haunted!
Next we turned on to the Blue Ridge Parkway - looking good.
After exiting the Parkway we did a twisty route up to Elk River Falls just north of Roan Mt TN. Here's the Elk River as seen from the trail leading to the falls.
The river plunges down the falls from a precarious height.
It's a long drop from the ledge I'm standing on. The little human spec is Sam.
Heading back from the falls upstream. Then, it was a bunch more twisty riding to finish things off. A great day!
