Looks very interesting Steve! I have an Escort 8500 and it works great with the sound boosted through a mixer amp to my headset. Escort makes some of the best in Radar. How does this one get your attention on the bike?

If you get it, let us know how it works out?

Coming from a Zumo550 and 8500x50 I think the IQ is a pretty decent attempt at a step in the right direction towards unifying the GPS and Radar. The radar functionality certainly sounds pretty good. Passive Laser detection is a fallacy, it only serves to inform you that you're about to receive a ticket (a little before you hear the cop's siren), the only real Laser protection with a Laser Jammer, e.g. Blinder or similar.

Biggest issues for me would be:

1. it's ain't waterproof

2. i'd need a separate mp3 player, instead of a separate radar detector

3. does not have the Mapsource route building support

For cage applications the IQ certainly sounds like an awesome all encompassing product.

At $650 you can buy the top of the line Valentine AND the upcoming Nuvi 3760 LMT. The Escort is heavy, not waterproof, and doesn't do routes. It has a long way to go before they catch the major GPS players, so you are paying a premium to get integrated function on a device that isn't targeted at motorcycles. The speaker even faces the windshield, and I am not aware of an audio plug for a headset.

Even if it was equal in performance to the other stuff that's available, personally, I wouldn't want an all-in-one device.

That'd be putting all the unborn chickens in one basket, ya know? When one feature craps out you're stuck spending all the money to replace it again.
