I saw one of these at the Sparks Roundup last week but can't remember whose bike. It looks very good and very simple, but just a question:

Since these have been around for at least a couple years, and I know a lot of folks use them, are there any negative experiences? In other words, does it hold onto your freakin' phone? There's a scary YouTube vid of somebody's phone just blowing off an x-grip at highway speed. (I will have it mounted on the 5" Ram Bone on the tank bolts, dead center behind the windshield, so that should help.) I like the convenience and all, but I'd hate to have my new iphone blow away.

Feedback appreciated.

ok, TWO questions. Does anybody actually carry RAM products in stock? I mean in a store? All I see is online vendors. I always like to see a thing before I buy, if possible--try my phone for size and all.

I have used one for several months and never had a problem. Currently I have my radar detector being held on the x-mount (in a horizontal position). I have not heard of anyone else having an issue with theirs. It looks like the weakest part of the mount would be the rubber arm covers...if one or more fell off, the device held would not be secured since the metal arm would be the only thing in contact with the object. Other than that, it is a very versatile holder and can accommodate any smartphone.

I bought my original one through my local shop. I obtained another a few months ago that is for sale...if you are interested, pm me.

Some retail stores carry a limited range of Ram stock ... Mostly I just buy from gpscity.com. Prices are decent, shipping is cheap and fast.

I have read lots of "concern" about the X-Grip, but only good things from those who have actually used one. I'd get one myself but I bought the Universal Finger Grip mount before the X-Grip became available, and it works for me.

I got one off amazon September 3, 2011...... Have been using it faithfully since then.....

You'd be hard pressed to find a better unit to hold the phone IMO, I use it with the Ram-Bone unit.... it just works and works great....

I'm running a galaxy s4 with an extended battery back case.... Love the X-Grip...

Only negative is that the phone could get wet in the rain, if I hit some rain I just snatch it from the xgrip with one hand and stuff it in my jacket pocket....

I started using one a few months ago and like you I was worried about the phone flying off. Mine is mounted on a ram ball next to my clutch cylinder. I ended up using one of my wifes hair ties around the phone and mount to give myself some piece of mind. I have also read that it works better with a phone case. I have a defender case on my Iphone that fits perfectly.

I have had my iPhone (in OtterBox) mounted in a Ram X-grip for 30,000+ miles and it has never budged.

My local BMW dealer has them in stock.

I have one that I have used for a couple of months and love it, I bought it because another rider I ride and work with has had it on his bike for over a year, and so far- nothing has come out of it accidentally. Sportsmans Warehouse has some stuff in stock- not sure if there are any of those near you, maybe a boat or atv equipment store? Cabelas/Bass pro as well has some.

I am actually also going to buy the bigger size that will hold a tablet for the ram-bone mount by the fuel tank I just purchased.

This ^^^^ minus the Otterbox for my iPhone and Nuvi GPS when swapping between both bikes.

I noticed several bikes using these in Sparks...wasn't my STen was it Mike?

I had the X grip. I didn't like the way it rotates a little less than a quarter turn while holding your phone.

I have a motorola Droid MAXX which has never seen the light of day outside of my otterbox defender case. I am using this case:

https://www.slipgripcarmounts.com/SlipGrip-RAM-Holder-For-Motorola-Droid-MAXX-XT1080M-Using-Otterbox-Defender-Case_p_135841.html

I Love it. the material it is made out of is a little thin, and has some flex to it, but it holds the phone superbly, and I haven't worried since the first 5 minutes after I opened the package.

The ram ball part is OEM RAM, not a cheap imitation.

I highly recommend it.

They make holder for lots of models with or without cases (and they make lots of variations for different cases.

(i have no affiliation, and cannot profit in anyway from this)

If they made a sunshade for my phone and/or garmin Zumo that mounted as well, I'd be a customer forever. As a matter of fact I just emailed them a request..

I've only used mine a couple of times. I have an iPhone 5 in a Lifeproof case, and no issue.

I've been using mine for 3 years now, about 36,000 miles. No problems and I've been on some rough gravel roads with it.

Bought mine at Bass Pro Shop. They did not even know they had one or what it was.

Just got mine and have only tested it on short rides until the upcoming weekend. I like the way it feels so far. No worries about it staying on with the otterbox giving a good feeling grip.

It probably was, George. I'm pretty old, ya know. Musta' forgot.

And we do have a Beemer dealer up near Roseville Yamaha, but I'd hate to pay double retail. Anyway, Allen_C's sending me his extra one. Y'all convinced me.

Unfortunately for me but a good data point for others, I had my iPhone in an X-grip when I high sided on Quincey-LaPorte Road back in '11. My bike took a bit of a beating, and my helmet gave up its life in exchange for mine, but the iPhone was still clutched by the X-grip without having moved a millimeter. That pretty much convinced me that it would hold my phone in nearly any "normal" conditions.

mine works so well (2 years so far) im not sure the phone would come out in a crash...

i'm very confident in mine.

I got mine the other day, I went a little over 100 miles with my phone being held. I ended up on a road that had some paving going on. well the road was being prepped for paving. I thought for sure my phone was a goner. I look down to find my phone still in place and hadn't move a bit. I am very happy with this so far. As for rain, I am thinking sliding a sandwich bag over it. I have not tried it yet. Hope this helps

I have had mine since the start of the year. I use it every time I ride. I escort funerals every week and I have never had a problem with it even during an escort. Hard acceleration, hard braking, and cornering. Zero issues. I even use it during the rain and haven't seen any negative effects. I use my phone as a gps so I consider my x grip one of the best purchases I have made for the bike other than gas and tires
