Lucky me I'm still on the road, Torrey Utah. Great ride today, it just doesn't get any better. Ride Utah 12 first thing in the AM then back to ranch.

dcarver, was that you I saw with a trailer and the FJR in the bed of the truck, 7/27 about 2ish, near Torrey? I waved as I went past you.

I called the second number listed on the FJR Assistance list and left a message. And yeah, we were at the Shell gas station and you were at the stop light. I think it was McDonalds on the other side of you. It was right at I-40 and whatever that corner was. So we would have been on your left as you were waiting at the light in front of the bridge.
I put my rain suit on and loved every minute of that storm! It was really cool when we got a few miles out to Claude and there was an open spot in the sky that let the light through and was kinda behind us. It made everything in front look highlighted, if that makes any sense. It was neat anyways.
Ah, that makes more sense... I have that phone, but didn't have it on since the battery was running low and I was charging the other one I now have. I know exactly which gas station that was, and my only excuse is that I had my earplugs on, and was concentrating on not dropping the bike in the rain, thinking about the day ahead, etc.

It was a pretty cool storm, as long as it stayed on the side of the road for the most part... I agree that sunrise was very unique and beautiful.

I stayed an extra day to hang with some friends from when I lived in the Denver area....

Left Westminster, CO Monday at 8:30am local time, arrived at my crib in the San Fernando Valley about an hour ago at 11:15pm local time. 1030 miles in 15 hours 45 min. My fuel cell wasn't working so I had to make 4 stops.

I had an awesome time. It was great meeting so many of you.

Until the next one...... Sean

I'm back.

Arrived home yesterday around 5:45 p.m.

825 miles from Denver to Fort Smith Sunday.

Then the remainder yesterday.

Great time, thanks everyone.

Left the hotel about 11 and nasty winds made me stop for the night in Utah about dusk. I got back into central Idaho yesterday about 3.

Now for a few days of relaxing before I let Delta cheuffer me home.

Thanks for the times and the rides. That was a great event and I loved meeting all of you!

I'm home, as of 0900 yesterday, a half-hour to spare on a return SS1K to match the one I did on the way there, only this one was documented and will finally get me a membership number. After three of them, I finally felt like an endurance rider, having dropped off two other, totally beaten "regular" touring types at the hotel at midnight and pressing on into the night for another nine hours. I was going to bed down as well, but the allure of open Nevada desert in the magic of darkness had my Soltek's begging me to stay up and play. When you own the night, it's tough to leave your kingdom unattended.

I added two more kamikaze jackrabbits to the tally, both on the way there, including the first one I saw, and in my own WFO tradition, one substantial injury to my own body. I seriously pulled a hamstring, trying to save my bike after I did a "Skooter" and tried to dismount without first putting a sidestand down. Luckily for me, my wingman was right there to let it come to rest against his own bike before touching down, resulting in minimal damage to either bike (mostly his, just scuffing the luggage pod). I like to think my heroic effort helped it come to rest somewhat gently on his already-propped bike. Just goes to show what stress can do for you.

[Critical NAFO rant] If Virginia is for lovers, Colorado is for Harley's. All those beautiful roads, but the best ones I rode were cursed with totally unreasonable (IMO) speed limits, but no helmet required. Perfect for the cruiser crowd, but not so much for the supersport touring types. If you have fun, you better be prepared to pay The Man, and many attendees did.

I chose to avoid Imperial encounters, while at the same time having some fun. The price I paid was mental & physical, but not financial. I'll leave it at that for now, but I did a giant victory fist-up when I hit the Utah border Sunday, successfully cheating the CO coffers out of my fair share of additional road use tax. What a waste of great pavement, IMO. YMMV. Like MadMike says, "Just do the speed limit". Whatever....my Escort did me well, but I think it wore itself out, giving up the ghost just inside Yosemite on the way home. Fortunately, the eleven miles between the Park gate and Oakhurst is a very tasty stretch of smooth twisty pavement, with a 55 MPH limit that I never came close to exceeding, while totally enjoying "The Pace" and not encountering a single car on the way down. There's no place like (my) home....[/Critical NAFO rant]

The fellowship was second to none. Made some new friends, and enjoyed sharing time with already-established ones.

NAFO, the gathering, could not have been anything without the gatherers. Thank you all for showing up and making it such a success. :clapping:

In spite of ToeCutter's attempts last night when accompanying Silent and me from Golden to Ely and without even knowing it shaming Silent and me into stopping fewer times than we would have liked to take pics and rest our butts, my membership in CBA appears to be intact.
Thank you guys for putting up with my mile-eating desire. The bonus was, we made it to that outpost on the Utah/Nevada border in time to get some cooked food, and I got my SS1K with only about a half-hour to spare. Awesome the way things worked out, at least for me....I got 286 miles out of my final tank of gas from Tonopah to Fresno.

I only decided to press on into the night about 30 minutes prior to that stop before Ely.

Carver, you need to relinquish your CBA presidency before I proclaim a f_a_t_w_a and j_i_h_a_d is rained down on your delusional regime. JB is the rightful president and No.1 CB!

I know you're blaming trying to save your bike for that hamstring pull Toe, but I have a personal theory that it may be at least somewhat related to flipping over 700 pound truck tires (couldn't you just walk around them if they're in your way?)

Great to see you again Bob and congrats on the SS1K! Nothing bigger than bunnies though...

Back safely on the east coast again after racking up a total of 4,190 miles. Really enjoyed meeting a lot of the forum members and putting faces with names (though some just don't match). Great roads, great views, and even better people. Thanks to all who helped make it a success. No performance awards during the entire trip. Temp reached 108 north of Dallas on Sunday afternoon. Come east for NAFO II and lets do it again.

:yahoo:

We did 7 mountian passes above 11000 feet, Pikes Peak and Mount Evans. :yahoo: The trip home was under cloud cover and smooth as glass. A little under 3K miles total :clapping: Can't wait for the next one "Back East" Thanks to everyone, it was a pleasure! :yahoo:

I'm home! I just parked the FJR, closed the garage door and brought some of the luggage in....

What a great time! I came home via Telluride and met FJRay in Cortez, then on to Ely, then home today.

3481 miles and smiles, 60.1 moving average.

What a wonderful time gathering FJR owners, old and new friends and superb roads and scenery.

I left Mead Colorado (35 miles up I-25 from Denver) Monday morning at 0530 and went SE in Colorado and then east into Kansas and down US 83 (wagon train trail) into panhandle of Oklahoma and then on into Texas.

Finally stopped Monday evening with 757 miles about 50 miles northeast of Abilene after stopping to take many pictures and reading waaaaaay to many historical marker signs.

Left Tuesday morning at 0530 and arrived home at 3:00 pm with 3,100 miles on the odometer.

I too, had a close (but no contact) encounter with an owl at about 0600 Tuesday and another close encounter with a low flying turkey about 0900 Tuesday morning. Saw lots of critters along the roadway on Monday evening.

My goal on this trip was to see areas of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas that I had not seen before and I managed to do all that and then some. Amazing change in geography in these states.

I've seen miles and miles of Texas........and the other states.

Only got sprinkled on a little by Abilene on Monday night.

It was a great trip on my Super Sport-Touring FJR.

I think I took 200+ pictures on this trip.

I made it home safe yesterday, but within an hour my SO talked me into working out. I got home and fell into bed... had an uneventfull trip back except ran into a new member about a week ago he purchased a 2007 in washington and we ran into him in Ogedon Utah on the way to visit family in Cal. He did feel sad about missing NAFO...

I HAD A FANTASTIC TIME. THANKS TO ALL THAT HAD A HAND IN THE PLANNING AND EXECUTION!!!!!

Back at the Hondarosa. The last day early was fantastic (Torrey Utah via Utah 12) then went to boring when running I15 south. Actually saw 122 on the digital temp indicator while undeway, Fairlaner would have died. Left Torrey at 0600, rode through 3 state parks, took a, uhh detour (anyone know that simply following a gps can be stoopid?) finished the day on ca hiway 58 with the mighty solteks blazing. What a wonderful curvy road the 58 is, and it's right in my backyard!

Ride reports forthcoming.

Great to see everyone again, and major kudos to all the FjrForum folks who organized, planned, and participated in this event! :clapping: :yahoo:

Nope, not me. I ride my Harley and FJR!

Yeah!

[Toe is my new best friend.... ]
Hey - I didn't run the SS1k, I only rode 199 miles a day, and I control the CBA treasury! It's all good!

I left the house 6:00 am thursday and got back home at 5:45 pm thursday. Did 600 miles and never left the state.

I'm so disappointed. I hooked up with Petey and we made it to Guymon, OK by noon. I started feeling a bit dizzy around 10:00. By noon I wasn't feeling well at all so I thought it best for me to turn around and try and make it back home. I donned my cool vest and within 30 min I was feeling a bit better.

I really hate that I missed NAFO though. I had been looking forward to it for so long. Maybe I wasn't meant to leave the city limits LOL

Sorry I didn't get to meet you Glenn. I don't know about the city limits...but maybe you were meant to put on the cooling vest.
