Being the newbie FJR owner that I am, I really did search but found nothing congruent. Hayulp!

I've been a sportbike rider for years and am just now gettin' in to the sport touring in the age of all the cool electronics stuff. Is there a FAQ here or thread where I can find out what multiplexers work good, helmet speakers, gps, cell phone hook-ups, MP3 player hook-ups, et. al. ?

I wanna get back to my "roots" of gettin' off work on Fri afternoon and just decide to ride off somewhere 5 or 600 miles away and be back on Sunday night,,,,,,, I wanna do it with all the "cool" stuff now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if that makes any sense. ;-)

EDIT: Oh yeah,,, I'd really like to go the Blue Tooth route.

Hey Goobr! I'm still kinda Caveman when it comes to what they call "FARKLES"! I have my GPS (QUEST) and camera mount and that's about it. A lot of the guys are going to the Garmin Zumo GPS that's Bluetooth and lets you route everything through it. If you Search ZUMO I'm sure you'll turn something up then! BTW - Called and confirmed 12/15 with Frank today. Can only do 1 day though! I think he said you were on for both!?

You will find Bluetooth solutions abound, unless you require a radar detector input that overrides all other inputs. At that point, Bluetooth expense doubles because there is no solution within the Bluetooth definition that allows two sources to drive one destination/headset.

J&M does have a full bluetooth system. I believe the price tag for everything will run you $1,400.

Now this is the point where everyone will chime in with all kinds of mixer combinations and tons of wired solutions that allow you to create something that looks like the back of a 1980 stereo system. But if what you are after is truly wireless connections between your helmets and the bike, with all the things like GPS, MP3, RD, Cell, Radio etc. piped together...

It doesn't exist yet.

Yo Rodd! Right, the ZUMO is what keeps coming up in my searches. The guy I bought the FJR from, his wife came by and picked me up from my house to take me to theirs and she had a ZUMO in her car. It was cool as hell. ZUMO is prolly the route (no pun intended) Ill go but I want to be sure it'll work with whatever else I wanna add to it, i.e., MP3 player, radar detector, cell phone and so on. Ive got my homework cut out for me I know, just wondering if anyone here might be able to save me some time.

12/15 it is my man! Yeah, Frank's got me down for both days but I'm scheduled to do his "track school" on the 15th. I might call him and change that. The reason I asked for the track school is because of the "get off" I had at Barber last year. Dude,,,,, I've gotten afraid of rushin' corners. I can slide, power wheelie and all that old shite comin' out of corners but for some reason, after that get off at Barber, I can't carry corner speed into a corner anymore. Wassup with that? You and a couple of buds from Team Performance are gonna be there and I hope to tap on y'all's experience. I just need some "confidence build up" goin' into corners now.

Okay,,, that's the answer I was lookin' for. The "total solution" is still a renegade proposition at this point.

I'm wanting a solution that I can build on as the "fun money account" dictates. Heck,, maybe I can come up with something worth contributing then. Thanks Jeff.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY ZUMO. One of the best purchases I have ever made. But the one major shortcoming it has is there is absolutely, positively, no wired audio input jack. So you cannot simply plug your RD into the Zumo. You must mix the output of the Zumo and the output of the RD into a comm system or similar mixing device.

Bluetooth, by definition, and on the Zumo, allows you to pair one cell phone (input device) and one headset (output device) via the Zumo Bluetooth.

IMO, that little tidbit of info is nearly impossible to find out without using your Visa card.

It appears J&M has a "total package" Bluetooth solution. Again, it's the TOTAL pricetag that scares the bejezus out of me.

And just for the record, I REFUSE to ride without an RD.

I use a autocomm pro-7 w/ Zumo 550 w/ Blackberry Blutoothed in, Escort 8500, and a Hand Held radio. (Never actually used it, but i could).

Zumo handles GPS, MP3 and Cell. I never talk while riding, but the screen will pop up and tell who it is,I can decide to pull over or not. Escort has priority so it mutes MP3. Everything works great, but the AutoComm eats batteries. I need to hardwire it in. Keep the autocomm in your tankbag and you only have one wire going to your helmet.

But, I've only used it a few times and pretty much figure it's only good for commuting when you need to be in touch. (When it took me 40 minutes to get to or from work every day it made sense.) It connects to your bluetooth cell phone and the FM version picks up FM radio.

FWIW, I also rode with headphones for many miles, but since revised my philosophy. No music or cell phones while riding. Use GPS and maps while riding cautiously. Everything else just makes a complicated mess. The only thing going in my ears these days are ear plugs.

Everyone's gotta find their own riding style / preferences. My $0.02 to consider...

I keep seeing, reading, hearing the zumo550 come up. I like the bluetooth part. I'm thinkin' that's gonna be my first farkle. I already have an XM subscription on my old Roady 2. About time to retire it anyway. Well,,,,,,,,,, that's one excuse to buy one, right?

Love my Zumo. Actually made me dump my iPod when I found out that Apple uses a proprietary file type for iPods that won't work with MP3 players. Goodbye Apple. Now I have a generic MP3 player in addition to the Zumo that actually works better than the iPod, so all is well.

Don't know about radar detectors, don't have one. That said, it would seem that there must be a radar detector that is Bluetooth compatible. In that case, it would work with the Zumo.

Nope, you must add another manufacturer's Bluetooth adapter to the audio output jack of existing RDs. Then you must decide if you want the Zumo Bluetooth input paired to your cell phone OR the RD, not both.



There lies the problem.
