Non-periodic, loud grinding/clunking noise from chassis/transmission

Just a quick followup - I've replaced front wheel bearings and, at the first glance, the noise is gone. I've not ridden long enough, though.

I used a small (#10) socket head with an extender to hammer bearings out of the wheel. I found that socket head has a tighter grip on bearing's inner race than a large flat screwdriver suggested elsewhere.
