I'm not an EOM organizer, so please take the word "Official" tongue-in-cheek!
Jeff Ashe has graciously posted an overview map and converted GPS files for Lorie’s and my 2-up ride on Saturday in his EOM 7 folder. As I am working through about 10 things at once, like most of us, I will add information to this thread today, tonight, and Wed night hoping to be complete NLT Wed night.
At 0730 on Saturday morning Lorie and I will be in the parking lot of the Brier Inn (straight out the front door in the back of the parking lot) to discuss the ride with folks who’d like to come along. You can recognize us by our 2005 Galaxy Blue Yamaha FJR, Hella FF50s, small American Flag bottom front of the windscreen, Marine Corps Emblem under the license plate, 2 x white helmets on our seats (and of course an American Flag on the back of each helmet!). At that time we will discuss the route and go over our group riding rules and organize. The “intent” is to leave at 0800 and to return to the Brier Inn ideally not later than 1630. That provides 8 +30 hours for riding, sightseeing, eating, riding and leaves ample time to prepare for the dinner Saturday night - at least in my humble opinion.
Ride Route(s)
The Base Route (EOM 2_Up Homestead Short GPS file) 255 miles at 5 +45 hours
I have a “Base” route and 2 alternate routes that we can consider depending on time available. The Base route is the route shown on the “Overview Map.” If you look at the map, all 3 routes are the same up to and including lunch at Marlinton (River Place Restaurant - https://www.discoverourtown.com/WV/local-46319.html ) just South of waypoint 16 (167 miles/3 +45 hour mark). At lunch we can consider time available/route desires and select our finishing route. This base route then heads East to Warm Springs, South to Rt 64, then West to the Brier Inn. The only additional “sight” on this route is The Homestead Resort https://www.thehomestead.com/ ) and it skips Beartown Park.
Alternate 1 (EOM 2_Up Homestead Long GPS File) 282 miles at 6 +47 hours
This route would be good IF we find ourselves ahead of schedule and with the time to ride a longer route (not very likely in my opinion). This adds the “Monkey Butt Express” route South of Rt 64. This route continues past Rt 64 (near Covington - where we go West on the Base route) down to Paint Bank (not on overview map) and then heads up Rt 311 to Rt 64 West and the Brier Inn. No additional sights, just more riding and twisties. I think this is the least likely route we’ll use.
Alternate 2 (EOM 2_Up Bear Town Park GPS File) 210 miles at 4 +37 hours
This route is the route I think we’ll actually run. This route turns south from Marlinton (lunch) on Rt 219 with a stop at the Beartown State Park ( https://www.beartownstatepark.com/ ); then continues South on 219 to Rt 64 West and the Brier Inn. Also along this route is the Droop Mountain Battlefield – Civil War (https://www.droopmountainbattlefield.com/ ) ---- Droop Mountain is NOT on the GPS file, but is just North of the Beartown Park; both are off of Rt 219.
I will post up the Group Riding Rules (well, they’re actually more like “guidelines,” arrrrgh) and anything else I can think of by tomorrow (Wed) night. We are both looking forward to this ride.
EDIT - if you print the Overview Map from the EOM 7 folder/Monkey Butt Express Map and the New River Gorge Map you'll have all possibilities covered. I'll bring a few copies just in case.
