Just like checking your cars oil pressure detection system (lite goes on when key is turned on & U actually look at it to see that the bulb is on & then start it & lite goes off) U should check the system on your FJR. Changing the oil on your FJR makes this easy to do. With new Yammy filter on & new compression washer on the drain bolt U just installed, turn the key on and start filling with oil. The oil lite will be on and mine goes out just after the last few drops from the 3rd guart of new oil goes in. This not only checks the bulb but checks the system also. Normally, just cause your oil lite goes out a few seconds after turning the key on just really checks the bulb. What if there was a short in the detection system showing there was proper oil level but there wasn't oil there? On the other hand, I've never read of a problem with our oil detection system...Later,,, De

The oil level indicator on the FJR is borderline worthless. If you look at the sightglass periodically and the level's OK then all is fine. Oil is not going to rapidly disappear in the FJR except possibly if the oil filter is hit and punctured by a projectile or a left side crash. The oil cooler on the front of the engine is pretty well protected from projectile damage.

So maybe the oil light does have some value. It lets you know if your oil filter is still there and intact. Of course hot oil on your left shoe might indicate that as well.
