dCarver's rides

Short daylight these Fall days of mid November. Meet up time 09:30 south of Pismo. La Panza road in morning light. Sheep herder speaks Spanish to the sheepies. Spanish Sheep?

101 north bound. It's going to be a really nice day.

5 intrepid riders, Barrie's Boyz, chapter Ibuprofen. Barrie, Brian, Jason, Dave, Don.

Headed towards 166 Eastbound, Santa Maria town.

Big ol' load.

It's been a warm Fall so far. We need rain, again.

166 eastbound.

Twitchell resevoir.

Road delay. 10 minutes the flag guy said. Time to remove the heated jacket.

Cool old barn on 166 before New Cuyama.

Dust storm to the north. As you can see, the last seasonal crops are in.

'The Place', Ventucopa CA. Barrie was all excited to get some early morning pie.

So in we went.

Guess what? No pies! The reflection of the green jacket is Barrie, nearly in tears. "I just wanted some pie!" LOL.

So we forgot the pie and rode to Ojai. I'm a poet and don't know it.

No water in river this time of year.

This ride has types of roads, twisty, straight, high speed sweepers and tight declining radius snot turns too!

Temps are finally dropping enough to provide fall foilage colors.

Huh! Impaired vertical clearance ain't nothing to a Pie Hungry Barrie!

Fire station.

Up the hill heading to Ojai. No-Pie-Ojai.

Interesting rock formations.

Lots of varying geography in the local hood.

Wonder what's down Rose Valley and Piedra Blanca roads? Not today will we find out.

We just rode down the horizontal streak moments before.

More road construction.

Arrived in Ojai, the Deeer Lodge, and this chopper was flying overhead. Not sure why, but it was noisy and was overhead for at least 20 minutes.

Some hard core Harleys! Check out the magaphone. This rider from Indiana!

Liked the artwork, caught my attention.

RIP Peter Fonda and decopage too!

Our fearless Harley rider, David S.

And even XXX showed up! He missed the meet up point but knew we would be Ojai..

With pie on the mind, we back tracked to Ventucopa. I was thinking it would be dark before I got home. That's ok, I have lights. Lots of lights.

Hard to read, but this tunnel had 1931 stamped on the front.

Riding a road backwards is like riding a new road!

Heading down the hill. Pie on the mind.

Really a fun day..

OK, it's not the high sierra's, but we're warm..

It's nice that these hills have spared from oil production.

1980, on this road, KZ1300 underneath, a bunch of us from Volumetrics in Inglewood CA rode. Bill, Armando, me, John Love. An F4 streaked overhead about 150 feet off the deck. Then went vertical when the wall approached. Still remember it!

Nice to see some clouds.

In 1980, this place was hopping.

Late afternoon light is wonderful camera light.

Jason Len bending the corner. Jason rides much better when his core body temps are greater than 98.4F!

Looking down on the Cuyama valley.

Rode Naomi today as KrZy8 has failing clutch master cylinder.

Smokey says 'Be Extra Careful!"

My favorite pic of this ride. Looks much better full screen and max resolution.

The Harley boyz at the Deer Lodge have me humming 'Going down that long lonesome highway, gonna do it my way.." from Then Came Bronson!

Finally, PIE!

Jason is happy.

Brian, he's happy too. Just has brain freeze.

At 33/166 the boyz head west and I continue east to eventually catch 58w then back home.

I'm thinking Barries Boyz should join the Maricopa Social Club!

Heavy equipment school.

58 is a wonderful road.

See what I mean?

California Valley just ahead.

Daylight grows short, temperature drops.

Got a full belly, the heated gear is working and I'm a happy rider.

Something to be said about twilight riding.

Joe Ely. The Road Goes on Forever.

Old barn on 58, westbound, before the school.

Yep. My left eye looks tired for some reason.

I'm discovering I need different Rx glasses for night riding. My transitionals just don't go 'clear' enough.

But they will do for now.

Heading towards Santa Margarita on 58, the coastal fog spills over the Santa Lucia mountain range making a photogenic last pic.

That's it!

Thanks for riding along.

Very nice Don.  Thanks for sharing.  Niehart said, " Looks like breakfast to me. ".  Correction, it is breakfast for him. :D
