Depends on the Interstate....not all are congested

Get a Goldwing and Camper like Dougie Bear??
In my experience camping will be no guarantee of success. I've seen many forest campgrounds that fill up or commercial sites that cater mostly to RV'ers, packing 'em in like sardines. Yeah, pitching a tent next to an RV running it's generator or AC all night is a good time

. Now go dual sport and pack a hammock or tent and do some stealth camping....

I wanna ad-lib, but being the height of tourism travel (July) I don't wanna get stuck. I've done it before, sucks. The desk clerk says "I think there's some rooms in the next town or two, good luck!".... don't like that game! ...don't like Interstates much either. Dilemma
Have a cell/smart phone? Around noon while having a casual lunch you start thinking about where you want to spend the night and start making calls and reservations. This way, your schedule is loose enough you can go where you want, see what you want, but not so tight you feel rushed.

I hear ya, point taken and Thank you (U guys R awesome!). Needing 3, or most likely 4 rooms/nite may kill this idea. That is a whole different ballgame than the one or two room gig/nite.

So ya say 3 or 4 rooms for just 3 or 4 guys? Well...

Rick from VT snores. I'm out

Bob from NJ stays up in bed and talks w his wifey and kids, too much for me. Out.

Mike from CAN (if he goes) has sleep apnea. Out.

I use to room w Stan-Lee da'Steamer. But, he can't do this trip as his g/f has now castrated him (after the last 2 week venture i took him on). Oh the price we pay for poodie, that's another story.

So I know ad-libbing and making arrangements on the fly sounds kewl, but, we need 3, most likely 4 rooms/nightly. Not an easy chore especially in July and on weekends (coming home). So, pre-calling is not the answer in this case eitha.

KJ, I'll try and keep an eye on this thread, as time grows closer to your night stay east of Cleveland. The Willoughby Brewing Company is less than a quarter mile from your hotel.

Is this still the itinerary? Step 13, Co Springs to N Platte via RMNP is going to be a loooong day. RNMP is a great drive and I highly recommend it, but it's 35 MPH through the park and this will be peak season. Expect slower speeds due to lookey-loo's gawking at elk, moose, butterflies, rainbows, etc. I drive it several times every summer and I still like to stop and look around at some of the pull-outs or the Alpine Visitor Center.

Guessing you guys will be pretty "seasoned" by this time but I estimate this to be at least a 12 or 13 hour day, door to door, after factoring in food, gas, and photo-op stops.

I hear ya DenverFJR, we know we have a lot on our plate, that RM Pkwy just looked to cool to not include. We'll be up and riding by at least 6am, sometimes it may have to be sooner! Good thing I have a RDL on order

and we may miss-out on some lagging 212 traffic and straight roads. Thank you "P"!

Hotel/motels are reserved. We have 3 rooms at each loca. We can alter between with advice here, but most of the days/runs are max'd out time wise. If there is something better and especially that is shorter between our lodging stops? Do chime in!

In my opinion, you should alter your routing to do the Bear Tooth Pass. You can tie it in with Chief Joseph Hwy as well. I've ridden most of the routes in that part of WY and those rank pretty high.

For the record I work outside everyday. Camping? Piff, my version of roughing it is no room service.
