Bosch 3323 oil filter

Wish I had seen this thread before I tried to install a Bosch 3323 filter last week. The threads bottomed out before the seal did. It leaked. Had to make another trip to the store for a different filter. Bummer.

I see this as a significant risk and would recommend this filter be removed from any cross reference lists. Had I tried to do this on the road and if the old filter was already trashed, I'd be stuck!

Same as above, on way to get a new filter.

I've been using the 3323 on both of my Yamahas for many years and many thousands of miles without issue.

I had to stop at AutoZone briefly this afternoon, and I went to the oil filter section to see what I'd find after reading this thread. All of the Bosch boxes were the new gray style as opposed to the old black version. I was surprised to find that filters labeled 3323 had both types of end caps, convex and concave. I looked at maybe six different 3323s, and it was about a 50/50 split between styles.



It seems really odd that filters with identical labels and packaging could be so different. Also note that the FJR-compatible filter has the orange nitrile ADBV. The other filter has a black (silicone?) ADBV. That's just weird.

Two weeks ago I ordered a six-pack of 3323s from Rock Auto. They all had the old black packaging and have the correct end caps. I guess that in the future, the only way to buy 3323s is at the auto parts store where you can inspect the end cap. I won't be ordering any more of them online for fear of getting the wrong style.

This needs to be added as a footnote to the bin-o-facts. The problem is apparently widespread. Bosch screwed the pooch. This has to be a manufacturing issue in China.

I think someone screwed up at the label machine. The 3323 hasn't changed, just another filter has been labeled as a 3323. Hopefully they snap and fix it.

Perhaps this particular bit of info regarding the mis-labelled Bosch 3323 filter could be reposted in the tech section, rather than in NERPT

No, please don't do that. That's just thread proliferation and is worse.

However, if you want to suggest to an existing FAQ organizer (e.g. somebody has an existing list with the Bosch 3323 in it) then you should send a PM to them suggesting they edit.

Then you should send a PM to the appropriate Bin-O'-Facts owner(s) suggesting a specific edit. Please don't pawn it off on others to magically do. Thx.

Good idea! Why don't you go send some messages to those cross-reference list custodians? They probably aren't going to all see your post here.

Why don't you both contact Bosch and tell them to fix their filters. Then we can all rest at night.

Simplest solution, don't buy Bosch filters.

I recently switched back to OEM filters. Cost a little more but I trust them a little more.

It's only money.

I'm curious to how proliferation is worse than trying provde important information to the list members? How many riders already bought the wrong filter since this thread was dumped and covered away in the NERPT gutter?

Changed my oil last night - been using the Bosch 3323 since I got the bike. Both old and new have the rigth configuration. I did check the new one in the box before I ponied up the money at Autozone.

I thought that I would email the link to this thread to the Bosch peeps in the hopes that maybe a technical support specialist would offer some insight. Sadly, it appears that my only two choices are telephone or Twitter. I don't do twitter, but if anyone else here does, perhaps we might learn something.

They won't be able to open the thread without being a member. i did email '[email protected]' that they have some mislabeled product out there and sent a copy of the photo posted.

I had this happen last week with the bosch filter. I will be avoiding them in the future. Mine started leaking about a day after the filter change.

Could we have a single locked message somewhere besides nerpt mentioning this? (it would've saved me a few hours of cleaning if I'd known)

Timely thread for me as I will be changing the oil on my '09 this coming weekend if the weather continues to be relatively nice. Maybe I just buy a Wix filter instead of the Bosch but I will for sure be checking the appearance of the filter thread.
