South eastern Indiana has some nice twisty roads and I have hosted a small meet and great here for the Royal Star riders before so I thought I would throw this out to the FJR riders.

Is there any interest in doing say a two night one day meet up and ride thing ?

When ? I'm thinking July sometime after the holiday weekend.

State Park with lodge and camp grounds ? Thinking Bedford Indiana at Spring Mill State Park. I live 45 minutes from there and know many good roads for the day ride.

Let's have some feed back and if there is enough interest I'll throw something together.

Just thought I'd let you know...I am interested in a southern Indiana ride. I have to check the calendar...but late mid to late July is what I am aiming for...but I have family vacations and wedding to attend this summer so I don't know right now when would be the best weekend. Just wanted to let you know that I do intend to get down there...I had such a great time last summer. Believe it or not, one of my favorite rides of the year...following those other fast riders around.... :yahoo:

Edit: I'd be interested if the accommodations were way down south by Corydon or similar. That's the only way I can do the good roads in Indiana on a Saturday/Sunday weekend.

I might be interested. Not so much in the camping thang though. French Lick, IN could have possibilities. ;)

Late July can work. Not planning a big thing but if several or even a few of us could get together and ride for the day would be fun.

I saw where you mentioned Corydon on the other site. That would work too. We just need to pick a weekend and do it.

French Lick does sound good but on the weekend it gets crowded with the casino and all. There is a new motel just out of town now and that would work as we could avoid the crowd .

Comfort Suites just south of town. They have a pretty good breakfast there. The French Lick Hotel is pricey for sure.

I am waiting for griff to get back to me...he's on the road now, getting back from Boston.

But the only way I can do this (so if this doesn't work out for you guys, don't plan around me) is if it is a Saturday/Sunday ride like last year.

Griff and I get up at 0DARK THIRTY to meet up in Kentland, then speed move briskly down 41 down to Terre Haute then head east to meet others in Bedford (at the Wendy's) at 12:45pm eastern time. Then the fun begins:

Heading southwest to Loogootee, southeast to West Baden Springs, (I believe we took a break at a DQ in French Lick) then south on 145 to the river, east and up on 66 to 62 east to Corydon. That was about 500 miles for me I believe.

Then Sunday, we reversed course to get back home.

We had Indiana riders with us on the Saturday from Bedford to where 62 east splits off from 66.

If you guys are into this, we can do this...if not, please feel free to plan your own ride. Griff will get back to me soon regarding which weekend(s) in July works out. I won't be doing it on the 4th of July weekend...and I know I can't do it on the 23rd or 30th as that is family trip time down in the Carolinas.

From last year's meetup...

Don't know whose in other than me, Wheatie and Aireboss, but we will be in Terre Haute at I-70 and US 41 (Speedway just south of I-70) at 10:30 EDT on Saturday and at the intersection of 58 and 37 near Bedford (I don't know a landmark right now) at about 12:45 EDT on Saturday if anybody wants to hook up with us. We're staying at the Super 8 in Corydon (stop 19) for the night. Rooms are $71. Let me know if you want to ride with us northerners and I'll figger out how we'll meet.

This works for me. All I need to know is what time in Bedford or Loogootee. By the way 550 from Loogootee to 150 took a beating last winter. Still fun but a little rough now. Also 237 from 145 to 66 is closed if you wanted to avoid Tell City. I know a great paved county road that will bypass all that and end up just a couple miles East of Rocky Point on 66. There will be no gas in this area though so we will need to fill up in Birdseye or French Lick. The gas station in Derby is now closed as well. From French Lick to Corydon via this route should pose no problem as far as gas goes.

If we could meet at the Bedford Wendy's just off the main north south highway at 12:45pm EDT with KSU at or about 1:15pm EDT so Carl and I could grab a refreshment, that would be great.

If someone wants to stay overnight at the Corydon Super8 as well, we can retrace our curvy steps the following day.

I do know that they have a decent restaurant within walking distance of the Super8.

I like your suggestions for the southern part of the area, I don't need to go through any part of Tell City, so if there are any shortcuts/suggestions...I definitely welcome those.

Who all can do this on the 16/17th of July???

Who all would be overnighting??

This is a go ! We will be there in Bedford at 12:45.

Can you post up a map like you guys did last year so I can check it out ? Weather permitting I will do a preride (Bedford to Corydon)the week before to make sure all is well.

Right now we are thinking of Saturday only and maybe stay for dinner in Corydon then head home as it's only 1 1/2 hour ride home from there.

Might throw this out on the others boards as well.

Excellent Scooper! Are you going to be 2up?

Sorry about the late start in Bedford, but maybe that's about as early as I can make it from the Chicago area while staying off the interstate.

...Plus that may give you some time for some pre-Bedford riding fun as well I suppose.

Looking forward to meeting you and any others that can make it...

Shell may want to come if the weather is nice. If she does we will be two up as she knows a FJR group will ride "Friskie". My plan either way is to bring up the rear and at say the junction of 145 and I-64 lead through the detour to 66 then let you boys have at it :)

It will be a blast to ride with you guys as I have not had the chance to ride with Feejers yet. I usually run with my sons on these roads and they are on a FZ1 and CBR650 .

I am frisky in my own eyes, not necessarily in anybody else's. :)

Basically, who rides in front and who rides in back will shake itself out. My rule is...if someone is faster than me in the corners, I wave them by on the next straight...if I am faster than someone else in the corners consistently, I will pass them at a safe spot in the straights if they won't wave me by. I don't wick it up in the straights (except maybe once in a blue moon) because I don't want the extra risk of a ticket...I generally go +10 to +15 in rural areas, I go +5 max in cities/towns...who knows what I do in the corners. :)

Scooper, can you modify the title to this thread to include the date we are doing this? If you can't...I will open a thread announcing the ride that has a date in the title...and we'll keep track of who is committing to the ride...

Wheaton,

If you get a chance post your route through Indiana. If I do this I could hook with you guys prior to your Bedord arrival, somewhere after Terre Haute.

It will probably be something like 46 to 43 to 54 to 37 to the Wendy's...

I post up the route once we get that worked up.
