Ok. I've tried all USB ports on the PC. (Windows 7). My phone's USB is different. The only other computer is my laptop from work and the company firewalls didn't like Sena SW. I'm on hold with Sena Tech Support to see what is next. Hopefully they are working on a fix on their end. It shouldn't be this much of an issue to uplink updates!

Got anyone else nearby with a Sena that has the software installed that can try it on their computer?

I updated my SMH10-11 headset from a computer running (obsolete) WinXP sometime last week. The update process went flawlessly. After updating the headset is still paired with my zumo 550 fine. Note: I did not delete and re-establish the pairing per the firmware update instructions (just too lazy), and that may be why it is still working for me. The headset also pairs just fine with my SM10 BT hub/transmitter, which is the other half of my bluetooth setup.

Looking forward to attempting to pair with other BT headsets in intercom mode.

Tech Support at Sena wants me to send my unit in. They will confirm normal operation and install the firm ware for me. Thanks for the assistance!!

Let us know what happens. I am glad that they are going to take care of it, but I hope the problem is unique to your set and not a more widespread issue.

Went from 80F on Saturday to low 20's on Sunday. Sunday was cold, windy and freezing rain. Perfect opportunity to sit and fiddle with computer things. I got mine updated to 5.0 flawlessly and without fuss. Now, if only I could try them out except sitting in my kitchen with the helmet on. Freaking ice on the ground today and 2F with the windchill just standing still. I'm ready for some spring!

I'm with Jasen, updated mine yesterday to v5.0 easily. Cleared the iPhone pairing, re-paired and all seems to be working fine. Probably won't get to road test until later this week.

I updated mine yesterday. I have a pair of SMH10s and have not used them yet, so this was a learning experience.

After I installed the software I hooked an SMH10 up and tried to update. The software did not recognize the hardware at first. I re-tried a couple of times and it finally worked. I think I needed to hold the buttons in a few seconds after the leds started flashing to make it work. I haven't tried to pair anything.

I have heard of some problems with the V5 some have got it to work some have gone back to V4.3 I myself haven't done anything..... maybe when this snow starts to melt I will pull them out and charge them up and figure out if I want to load V5

Well I upgraded to V5.0 from 4.3 today but no joy. It would not pair with my Zumo 550. It did pair with my wife's SMH10 thru intercom, did pair with my iPod no trouble, but not the Zumo. It would say phone connected for a millisecond then say phone disconnected. I even tried multipoint pairing to just get the HFP to pair up with the Zumo as a headset, but no joy. So I went back to V4.3 and everything paired up perfectly.
I hope it's a fixable bug and the next version works.
Attempted to re-pair my zumo 550 with a Sena SMH10-11 previously upgraded to V5.0 firmware. Got the same symptoms.

Rolled Sena back to 4.1.1

So... once the zumo has been paired to the Sena headset, if you subsequently just update the Sena firmware and don't try to re-pair it the headset will continue to work fine. Which would probably be OK until some time in the future when / if you wanted to re-establish the pairings. That also tells me there is an incompatibility / bug in the code that is being sent to the zumo from the V5.0 Sena. Guess I'll wait until V5.1 to upgrade the firmware again.

I cannot get the SMH10 v5 to pair with my garmin 2820. I tried a factory reset and clear faults. The garmin sees the SMH10 but the SMH10 won't connect to the garmin. Oh well, rolled the firmware back to v4.2. Hopefully, v5.1 will be released soon.

My setup:

Garmin Streetpilot 2820 for GPS directions

SM10 hardwired to radar detector and MP3 player

Cell phone paired for calls only

Single SMH10

I see that Sena has added a patch to specifically address compatibility with Garmin GPS's, so those of you with issues pairing to your Garmin might try reloading V 5.0 to get the new patch.

I tried universal pairing with a Scala Q3 with some success. I say "some" because a simple one to one pairing went flawlessly and the intercom worked great. Then we tried a 4 way intercom between 2 Senas and 2 Q3's, which worked half the time and it's procedurally complex because the Q3's must join a Sena. This is because it is not possible to initiate more than one intercom at a time from the same headset, the other party must initiate an intercom with you. And so how do they know you want to have a 3 or 4 way chat then? Well hand signals or smoke signals I suppose, and therein lies the technological rub - new fangled gear requiring old school communication techniques. If you're not following this, it's not you. A multi party, multi brand Intercom with 3 or 4 headsets is complicated to set up. When you go to try it, you'll understand.

And the final wisdom. Non Sena folks won't necessarily know what the process is for initiating an intercom with a Sena once your paired up. For Q3 folks, you need to push both buttons at the same time (channel 1 and channel 2?) to initiate an intercom. My buddy with the Q3 did an inter web search to find that out.

I'm pleased to be able to connect with non Sena headsets, so I hope this doesn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm for a truly significant leap forward on Sena's part.

Just re-did the firmware update to V5.0 and now it pairs perfectly with my zumo 550.

Thanks for the heads up VinnyBoy!

PS - You may want to download an updated version of the SMH10 User's Guide that covers the new features of V5.0

I don't know if it was the new version of V5 or the recommendation from Sena tech support to reset to factory default that did the trick. But everything works as it should. Thanks VinnyBoy!

Sorry to jump in on an existing topic, but you guys seem to be very knowledgeable on this subject.

I am looking to purchase a Bluetooth headset to do the following:

a) hear prompts from my Garmin 350

B) communicate with another rider who is using a Scala G9

c) communicate with possible other riders using SENA products

Is the SENS SMH10 the best/most economical choice?

I have a pair of these units. When updating the software one of them worked fine but the other failed in the middle of the process and it won't respond to anything. It appears to be fully charged but can't get it recognized, can't even power it up to try to connect. Tried all manner of factory reset instructions, but it stays dead.

This particular unit was a replacement from Sena for another one that did precisely the same thing. Anyone know any tricks to get this thing to reset? Otherwise back to Sena for replacement ... again.
