Fricken tires...

I cannot understand why I get such shitty rear tire mileage. Was really expecting 7 - 8000 miles out this highly touted rubber. Running 41# front and 42# rear so that should not be the problem. Wassup?

I got 7000 miles out of my last set, and still very happy with my 2nd set.... Anything was better then the factory junk it came with...

Ralph, I got just over 9,000 miles out of my first set of PR2s -- the set I had at CFR last year. This weekend I'm changing out my second set (takeoffs at about 3,200 miles (from just before the CFR trip set) that I put on again after that CFR set wore out). Not sure as I sit here, but I think I'm going to have about 7,000 on this set (though the front may have another 1,000 left in it). No idea why the difference in tire life for identical tires out of the same batches. Too much two up? Too much right hand? Different road surfaces? More heat cycles in this set than for the CFR set that had almost 5,000 miles of its 9,000 mile life put on during two weeks of touring?

Maybe all of those things...? A 'matrix' (if you will?). Along with a little "personal psychology"...?

One thing I think I've noticed as a 'standard' in this issue: if you ride a lot of short trips, but still ride a lot -- ride often but not hard/high-speed/heavily loaded -- you may get pretty good tire life.

OTOH, I wouldn't doubt that there are some 'animals' out there that could destroy the FJR's tires (in the right circumstances/venues) in a day...!

I'd seriously check if there is something else bike wise causing this...check the alignment of the front wheel to the rear wheel along the frame/swingarm lines

there's some info on that around using string, etc.

I get freakin' 15k plus on a PR2 rear (third time), but my miles are on the slab with the cruise control set by far

4 sets of pr2s, the most I ever got was 5-6k. I wear the sides out, and am left with tires that may have middle tread, but won't hold a line.

Had that same problem with the B rated PR2, 6000+ on a normal set 40 rear 42 front they are about gone also

I've got about 6500 on my first set, and I'm gonna get to Eureka and back or bust. But that's all. And at 9 k they will have lasted longer than any yet. They are creating a buzz in the bars and washing out on corners too much. I have already, dare I say it, ordered a CT. Gasp Will put it on when I get back, getting tired of needing a new tire every time I want to go out of town.

I have seen a set toasted in 1800 miles, that GloryRacing dude would kill for 4000 on his rear PR2 tire.

I do wonder about your wheel geometry - front to back wheel. Should be relatively easy to see how they line up to each other.

Or is your throttle hand just too itchy? Oh no, now I figured it out - this tire wear must be the direct result from your new bi-turbo setup!!!

I'm pretty agressive two up and usually get 6500-8500 miles a set of mostly twisties. I never wear a tire out in the middle.

OOPS.... Just checked my service records and I miscalculated my mileage on the last change out. Looks like I am right at 8000 miles, so that makes me mucho happier and feeling quite silly. I am happy with 8000 miles with my riding style and setup. These are wearing out fairly evenly sides and middle.

Big difference dude, I took mine off at 5K because they stuck like Fred Flinstones stones and pushed badly on hot Texas chip seal, that was a record for me and you should be happy with that mileage. Are you going back with them for replacements ?

Ralph, I was beginning to get concerned for you! I know the roads are gritty down your way...but damn.

My last two sets have run 11,200 & 10,800 with a few miles left on the latter. Had to change them for the trip south to WFO next week. :yahoo:

My last set I swapped them out right around the 16K mi mark and they still had some life left in them... probably a couple of thousand. My current set was put on with 65K on the odo, just rolled over 80K today so that's 15Km.. call it 9K miles. They look to be about half done.

ALL you left-coast dudes are spoiled rotten. PR2s or freakin titanium-plad car tires won't make it 8,000 miles on the right coast.

I only got 10K+ and had more to go but replaced due to a trip coming up.

I don't do burn outs, wheelies, try to leave the atmosphere, etc.

If you only got about 4K miles on the PR2's what kind of mileage do you get on others, 600 miles? How often did you check tire pressure? Are you riding two up fully loaded all the time? Etc....

What about speed... does it have adverse tire wear if say you are at 100 plus more often???

OR

If same riding distance on slab but one is 85-90mph and other is 65-70mph???
