    2k worth of performance/handling mods?

Suspension mods have made a substantial difference to me in terms of performance and touring comfort. And--at least initially--they were free. see clicky for some valuable info. I agree with some earlier comments: If you define performance as raw power, precision and short- to...

    S Plug Universal Earplug Speakers

S Plugs: use 'em, love 'em, recommend 'em. They fit deep in the ears, do a good job of shielding ambient noise, have good sound quality, and are easy (for me) to get the helmet on and off. :good: I've had the Etymotics ER6i, and while they're a good product, for me, the S Plugs are better.

    Touring Boot

5+ years, at least 20k miles. Had them resoled last year and they're great. Melted spot on heel isn't a big problem or concern. I'd buy again, but it'll probably be another 3-5 years before it's necessary. Good boot.

    awesome in ear speakers

See this post for additional perspective. clicky S Plugs rock! Use 'em with an i-jet for bluetooth control of the ipod. Good sound, very convenient, and good in-ear fit under helmet. ;)

    Talk about Hi-Viz Helmets

Ditto. I think white gets pretty good visability/attention, too. It might be even more conspicuous when contrasted with some black and another color in the jacket, e.g. hi-viz yellow with black trim.

First good ride on new (to me) FJR

I always ride with ear plugs. Besides protecting your hearing, it makes for such a quiet, pleasant ride that significantly reduces fatigue. I also use in-ear earbuds plus an ipod for music. An ijet clicky with bluetooth handlbar controls makes adjusting volume, advancing tunes, or stopping...

    I just bought a 2008AE!

Congrats on the purchase. +1 on the melted left heel on my Cruiserworks boots. Small price to pay for all the fun I've gotten from the FJR! ;)

    FJR for 2 up touring?

Average MPG on 87 octane over 30k miles (home elevation of 4250 ft) = 46.9. High MPG of 54.5 (high in the Colorado Rockies). Highest miles to a tank of 282 (never ran out, still had several tenths left).

    Cycle port ultra ordered

No stiffness problems here. I've had them for 3 years, washed several times, and haven't noticed any difference. They were quite comfortable from day one. No crash tests yet, so I can't comment on their effectiveness. Otherwise, I'm pleased. ;)

Why I LOVE my FJR... and farkles...

Here's my list: 1. Engine (overall power, broad torque curve, good top end). I love the roll-on power when passing! :specool: 2. Handling. The bike is nimble yet stable at high speed. Cornering is good. Getting suspension sorted out provides even more benefits. 3. Fuel capacity. It's great...

    Winter gloves

Thanks, Fred. I've got Gerbings heated gloves and use them when it's extremely cold, but wanted to consider an additional pair of winter gloves for shorter rides or when the electrics aren't absolutely necessary.

    Winter gloves

Any recommendations for non-electric cold weather gloves? Anybody had the Cortech Scarabs?

    The new Shoei RF-1100

An update: I bought a solid white RF-1100 for $369 two weeks ago. I can only compare it to my prior helmet, an Arai Quantum II. The Shoei is several ounces heavier, a bit larger (not round, with the wing in the back), but it has much better ventilation and is significantly quieter. The...
