Sportbikes, In the News, And It's Ugly

Ignacio, I'm not clear that I didn't follow the forum rules. I posted the source of my information in my initial post, a CNN website link, which was included in my initial link. If people read that, they would have read the following: The CNN article contained a verbatim quotation from the...

Sportbikes, In the News, And It's Ugly

Ignacio, My initial exposure to this report was through a second hand article posted on the CNN Money website, whose link I posted in my initial post on this thread. That article contained this quotation: "Short of banning supersport and sport motorcycles from public roadways, capping the speed...

    Cooloer on 91 Octane?

Several years ago, after studying the real differences between different brands of gasolines, I switched to the premium brands of gasoline. Right now, to my knowledge, the ones with the best additives are Shell and Chevron. I also began to experiment using different octanes and began checking...

Heavy steering. Do yours all do it?

I've experimented with tire pressures on my '05 FJR, high and low. None of that has ever caused any difficulty in turning. I don't think tire pressure is your problem. Nor, new or worn tires. My best guess is that your head bearings are too tight. IRBR

Sportbikes, In the News, And It's Ugly

Ignaicio, Go to this URL: https://www.iihs.org/sr/pdfs/sr4209.pdf and search for this sentence: "Short of banning supersport and sport motorcycles from public roadways, capping speed of these street-legal racing machines at the factor might be one way to reduce risk." There is only one...

    'Supersport' cycles step up risk

I read the entire IIHS report this morning. These statistics stood out: 1. Only 51% of riders currently wear helmets, a 20% decrease from 7 years ago. 2. Deaths have doubled in the last 10 years, up to the current ~4500 deaths per year. 3. The rise in deaths is pronounced among those in the...

    TIRE 190 series

Based on everything I have read, I wouldn't recommend placing tires on your bike that are not of the recommended sizes and ratios. In general, wider tires will hamper your steering, especially at low speeds. A few years ago, my son decided he knew more than the people that designed his...

    'Supersport' cycles step up risk

Well, there you have it. The problem is Touring bikes. I say, let 'em ban the Gold Wing! :D IRBR

    'Supersport' cycles step up risk

Thanks for the post that started this thread about the article on USA Today's website. I saw a very similar article on CNN's Business website. And I posted a similar post in the Sportbike section of the FJR Forum: Sportbikes, In the New, And It's Ugly You are invited to read it since it...

    FJR Tire Suggestions

I've gone through 2 different models of Metzler's on my '05 FJR. No more of those. The bike wouldn't hold a line in a high speed turn. I'm currently using Michelin Pilot Road's and am extremely pleased with them in every way. IRBR

    Tire noise?

Maybe it's because I wear ear plugs. I've never heard my tires howl, only my engine's wail and a little wind noise. ;) IRBR

    Performance Increase

I'm not criticizing anyone but I've never understood people's desires to buy a vehicle, then make it faster. I see this characteristic in Harley riders all the time. They buy a seriously underpowered, relatively poor handling machine, and spend endless hours and money to make it somewhat faster...

Sportbikes, In the News, And It's Ugly

There could be a lot of different reasons why motorcycle deaths have increased. But until a new scientific study similar to the Hurt Report is completed, public perceptions reinforced by media biases and general public misinformation will continue to be the perceived reality. IRBR
