Stumbled Across a Super Low Mile '05 For Sale

Wherever you want to put the thread Iggy. Since I'm not selling anything here, couldn't convince myself to put it in the FS forum. Compared to what I saw for pricing of 04-05-06 bikes on DFW craigslist, it actually looks pretty competitive. That said, a bike that has been ridden might - might -...

Stumbled Across a Super Low Mile '05 For Sale

Public Service Announcement in case anyone is interested. Not my bike, no association, and like Sgt. Shultz I Know Nothing. My local BMW dealer has listed for sale a 2005 FJR with 1,954 miles. The bike appears to be stock with the Yamaha trunk and perhaps a CB windshield. Dealer claims it's an...

    Irritants

How do you even do that to a 4 door sedan on a low speed road??? The mind boggles.

A little bit of Scotland - part of Applecross, Pass of the Cattle

Thanks for posting up the video, it brings back good memories. I rode Applecross during an Edelweiss tour of Scotland a few years ago. We rode over the pass first thing in the morning, then up the coastline and stopped in Shieldaig for lunch. The top of the pass was fogged in so thick that we...

Triple clamp crooked after fork rebuild

There's no keyway or other mechanical system locking the upper triple to the stem. So when you torque the stem nut all you are doing is clamping the upper triple against the upper bearing. You've got some friction from the stem nut against the surface of the upper triple, but I found it was...

Triple clamp crooked after fork rebuild

Just cleaned and greased steering head bearings, no need to replace anything this time around. It would never occur to me not to fully assemble and torque the steering head and upper triple clamp before installing the forks/wheel/etc. The upper and lower triple rotate independently of one...

Triple clamp crooked after fork rebuild

Got it fixed. I went with something along the lines of the BanjoBoy method. Put the front end in the air and loosened everything. Tightened the upper triple clamp bolts. Did the spin the tire and grab the brake thing. Lowered the front end and exercised it up and down a bit. Then tightened the...

Triple clamp crooked after fork rebuild

Thanks guys. Yup, askew is just a fancy pants word for crooked. I serviced the steering head bearings while the forks were out, so the triple clamps were completely off the bike. I'll try loosening everything and starting over. So the official sequence is to tighten the top triple clamp bolts...

Triple clamp crooked after fork rebuild

Howdy all. I'm not finding any discussion of this topic using search and it's not Friday, so here goes... I recently had the forks rebuilt on my 2006. Upon reassembly the top triple clamp is slightly askew when riding straight. It was fine before the rebuild. I've owned the bike from new and...

    The improbable never-empty gas tank

I find that filling up at Buc-ee's (yes, that's the spelling) negatively impacts ones fuel range. If you have ever seen the quantity and variety of food items the sell, you would understand this statement. :)

Am I out of line? Getting my 16 year old his first ride.

Do be aware that all 2015 and 2016 CBR300 models have been recalled and Honda has issued a stop sale order. The crankshaft can break without warning, resulting in rather bad stuff happening. The remedy will be to have the dealer replace the crank. Ninja 300 anyone? :)

    Fly, uhhh maybe, and Ride!

Enjoyed reading your story, thanks for sharing it. Never heard of an oil filter taking a hit before, but can sure see how that is possible given its location on the FJR. Have to say that it was the w123 in the driveway that first got my attention.

    torn between 2 evils.....

Send me a PM and I will be happy to email over a PC-V file or two.

    torn between 2 evils.....

I found myself similarly situated with my 2006. I acquired a PC-V and installed the gen II wally smoothness map. It definately took away much of the low RPM buzz and smoothed out throttle response. But I found the fuel consumption increased more than I was happy with. So I rolled my own map. I...

    Texas Registration of a D & H - bought FJR

You will be fine. The very first line on the Texas Dmv website says "within 30 days of bringing the vehicle back to Texas..." They don't care what date you bought it, only when you get here with it. Here is the link...
