    Mounting Hagon remote preload adjuster?

I just so happened to have this little half moon piece of aluminum in my scrap pile. It was perfectly dimensioned to do more or less exactly what I needed. It is not so thick that the shoulder bolts can't use all the threads in the subframe, which was a concern. It will move the saddlebag rubber...

    Mounting Hagon remote preload adjuster?

At 62k miles the stock shock on my 2007 FJR is worn out. So I bought a Hagon shock with remote preload adjuster (last August, but I'm just now getting around to putting it on). I'm curious if anyone who has installed a Hagon shock with the optional remote preload adjuster has any tips for a...

    Epic F**K up, Now what?

When I replaced the CCT on my '07 I managed to drop an 8mm socket in that hole. Luckily a really strong magnet (out of an old hard drive) pulled it along inside the frame to the hole where I was able to extract it. Certainly worth considering.

    Epic F**K up, Now what?

There's a lot you can do before taking the engine out, or even taking the pan off. I would for sure look at taking off the clutch, that's a piece of cake, and you've got nothing to lose but a little time. Also, try a different magnet onna stick and/or a borescope. If there is a big enough gap...

where should i go for a quick oil change

What I did on my last on-the-road oil change: Go to Autozone in Casper, WY. Buy jug of Shell Rotella 15W-40, Bosch 3300 filter, and an oil change kit ($5 including drain pan, funnel, hand cleaner, and roll of shop towels). Change oil in parking lot. Pour used oil back in empty Rotella jug and...

    Checking Torque Wrench Calibration

A couple of points to add: 1. I check the calibration of my torque wrenches by clamping the square drive in my bench vise. 2. An inaccurate torque wrench can still be a good tool if you go to the trouble of characterizing its calibration curve. I'd rather have a precise and inaccurate torque...

    Need extra key

The US version of the bike (don't know about European models) has a conventional key, no immobilizer RFID 'pill' inside the key. I had a couple of copies cut using standard key blanks made by one of the usual suppliers, like Ilco, Curtis, etc. The Bin 'O Facts for the Gen II says: Ignition...

Break in service on leftover '09

Kawasaki use exactly the same size plug and their manuals call out 14.5 ft-lb. Personally, I think 31 ft-lb for a drain plug of that size, going into an alloy casing, with oiled threads is excessive. Assembled new at the factory with dry threads, 31 ft-lb is not excessive. But with oiled...

Gen II clutch slave conversion to GEN I *feedback requested*

Easy enough to find out for sure- undo the 3 bolts and measure across the piston. No need to take the line off or bleed it.

Gen II clutch slave conversion to GEN I *feedback requested*

Thanks to seeing this thread I decided to take the plunge and replace my 2007's slave cylinder with one from an '03 model. $30 including shipping from an ebay seller. I measured the piston diameters- the 07 was 29.5 mm, the 03 was 33.6 mm. The lever effort should now be reduced to about 3/4 of...

    Lithium battery experience?

The same experiment with a VRLA battery may also surprise you. All batteries, when fully charged and kept cold, preserve their charge much better than when warm. AGM and VRLA types do this so well that it is reasonable to leave them alone for the entire winter storage season, in cold climates...
