Oh, I get it now. It’s the FJR engineer  who should be drawn and quartered. LOL I too, have switched most of my vehicles  to LED headlamps. Marked improvement  in all but one older car. Results in bikes  has been great. 

And now, for the rest of the story.....

Front tire wear is usually more about riding technique than it is about tire choice.  For example, braking in corners will often result in the cupping/scalloping described by the OP.  Insufficient rebound damping in  the front forks will exacerbate the condition. 

After 4 Gold Wings over 14 years I, too, decided I was too young for them and bought me an ‘06 FJR.  Never looked back. Never been happier. 

Another bike to add to the ”Do Not Purchase” list. 

I agree  with Niehart. I have the Yamaha’s on my bike, absolutely no regrets.  Over the years there’s been some  dissatisfaction with the Emgo’s.

All of my liquid cooled vehicles, including the FJR, have both a  radiator and an oil cooler. 

I’m afraid asking that question here will get you more opinions than answers.  Google “motorcycle steering dampers” and you’ll find more info than you can handle. 

The “mod” was to just unwind the spring  one turn or  so. If it is completely slack  ( unwound too much ) you can restore some tension with a piece of string or wire to pull the spring back into the proper position. HTH

The best thing to come out of Maryland  is a road to West Virginia.
