Winter Project - Reviving a Wounded FJR

I was just looking at a crashed 8000 mile '12 bike for £2700 ($4430) Thought I might just swap parts off my older bike and end up with a cheap 2 year old. Problem is that the frame may be damaged and in UK frame number is everything !

    Valve adjustment shims

Yes, we used to rub Lotus ones on an emery papered steel plate. Seemed a bit of a bodge, but then a shim a few 10ths out was the least of those cars problems ! I find my local BMW will swap shims for a contribution to their tea fund - would your local dealer not do that ?

    Fast idle on gen 1

mine revs pretty hard for about a minute then drops to a normal figure. (its around 0c at 5.30am here) Bit awkward as you have to put it in gear and pull away then fan the clutch to keep speed down. Would rather have a manual lever for this like a BMW !

    Atholl Brose ?

Just seen a 'new' recipe for this that says to leave the oats in water for a few days then filter off the juice and throw away the solids I've only drunk it with the oats still in the glass. Maybe the new way is the right way ? makes more sense than trying to swallow a glass of porridge

Pearl Harbor Remembrance - Brave Americans.

Oh yes 7th December - bit slow on the uptake there ! Respect and thoughts to you all. A very sad day for the USA but at least it meant we knew that you would make the war winnable. (I wonder if that's why it was allowed to happen ?)

    Why can't I post?

Well I've just bought a 2001. Always been on this site for the Iron butt coverage and have felt the respect with which these bikes are accorded but......... they always seemed a bit pricey, I mean, you can buy a BMW for the same money. But I've bitten the bullet - paid nearly £2000 for a...

2011 IBR - The Inside View

yes, thanks from me as well been a great way to spend 7 night shifts ! off on my own little trip now, Spa biker classic, Garmisch, some Alp passes, Stella Alpina then visit the family WW1 war graves on way home. Would almost be tempted with an FJR if they were not almost as much as a K1600...

2011 IBR - The Inside View

I guess Ken spends some big cash on doing this and all the others. Obviously to be competitive, you need to be doing all this stuff regularly Interesting the difference in fuel price - that would pay for my flight and a rental bike ! Dont think I will ever be able to actually do the rally...

2011 IBR - The Inside View

So how much does it cost to compete in the Rally do you think ? Was thinking that in Europe, just the fuel alone would be $4-6000 (depending upon consumption and exchange rate)
