    Bike Cradle VS Trailers

From the Gen. II owners manual, page 5-2: "Caution - Even with the transmission in the neutral position, do not coast for long periods of time with the engine off, and do not tow the motorcycle for long distances. The transmission is properly lubricated only when the engine is running...

Opinions on stock seat (Gen II)

A lot of people have commenetd that 300, 400, 500, or 600 miles are no problem on the stock seat, and I agree. It wasn't until I got to 1000 to 1100 mile days that I felt the need to send my seat to Russell. And as always, YMMV. Seat comfort is highly subjective and depends on a lot of factors...

Opinions on stock seat (Gen II)

For what it's worth (I'm 6'-0", 190 lbs.) I thought the stock seat was fine, until I did my first Saddle Sore 1000. After 1107 miles in 15 hours, I decided it had to be fixed. My new Russell (from the group buy) should arrive today or tomorrow. Based on feedback from other Russell owners, I'm...

    Dual Star heated grips

Which is all the more reason to have an email address on your website, in case there's nobody available to answer the phone (or clean out your only voice mail box that's been full for a week).

    Dual Star heated grips

Have you received your order? In the middle of December I called them (because they don’t have online ordering – what’s up with that?) and ordered a set of grip heaters and a Heat-Troller. The girl that took the order told me the grip heaters were back ordered, but she said they’d ship in “two...

    YES Yamaha Extended Service warranty

D&H is definitely the way to go, if your local dealer won't play. I walked into the dealership where I bought my bike (Rockwall Yamaha in Rockwall, TX) and told the slaesman about the D&H price. They matched it, no questons asked. I try to support my local dealer when I can.

    FJR - 1, buzzard - 0

Anyone who rides in Texas knows about the hazards of buzzards. They feed on dead stuff in the roadway, and when you come over a rise or around a corner they take off real slow, and they're real big. In the 15 years of lived here I've had a lot of close calls. Yesterday I was headed south on 69...

    torgue wrenches

My experience is the same. I have four or five Craftsman ratchets. The older ones that my dad gave me thirty years ago have a metal selector to change the ratcheting direction and very positive engagement. The newer ones have a plastic selector and are obviously not the same quality.

    torgue wrenches

I have two Craftsman micrometer torque wrenches (3/8" drive and 1/2" drive). The only problem with them is that the locking ring that is used to lock the torque setting is plastic. It broke on both wrenches, in normal usage, and was not covered under warranty. Craftsman torque wrenches don't...

    Fuse block preference

The actual voltage is closer to 13.5 - I generally use 12 as a conservative number. Divide 124 watts by 13.5 and you get about 9.2 amps. Also, it's unlikely that you'd be running both the gloves and the jacket at 100% for any length of time. Ideally, I'd put the two items on separate circuits...

    Fuse block preference

There's no doubt that the Blue Sea can handle more power than the FZ1. In my application, I looked at the things I planned to run and didn't come up with anything that required greater than 120 watts (10 amps @ 12 V) on a single circuit. Even the heated liner I'm considering (Warm n' Safe) only...

    Fuse block preference

Fact: Using a fuse that's larger than necessary for the current draw of the protected device is a bad idea. Not sure what your background is, but I spent 17 years designing power systems for telecommunications equipment. The fact that a Powerlet is shipped with a 15A fuse is not relevant. It's...

    Fuse block preference

Uhh, not really. What they say is "You can run these types of devices but you need to know the amount of current they use before hooking them up." This stuff ain't rocket science. Take the wattage of your device, divide by twelve volts, and you'll get the current draw in amps. Just because you...

    10% discount on Russell seats

See post #92. When I talked to Heather at Russell, she said the cutoff date was 11/10. Even so, it wouldn't hurt to call and see if you can still get in on it.
