    Bikefest in Vegas

Hmmmm, I live here, I guess I'll show up.

Wings out or in to take heat off the rider?

I don't feel any significant vibrations in the handlebars. However, the throttle could be a little easier to twist. I can do the spring unwind thing if needed. The AE does lurch everytime I come to a stop when the auto clutch disengages. Kind of irritating, but I'm getting used to it. I...

Wings out or in to take heat off the rider?

Okay guys, I get it. Just grin and bear the heat. Believe me when I say I'm not a rookie rider and I've had many, many kinds of motorcycles. My last sport/touring bike was a BMW R1200RT. I've also had a 2005 FJR1300 along with countless race and sportbikes. I still have a 2006 GSXR1000 for...

Wings out or in to take heat off the rider?

Keep them coming. I'm definitely going to get one of those cooling vests. The heat will still be hot on the lower legs though. I guess I can do what Brody suggests and soak the lower pant legs.

Wings out or in to take heat off the rider?

I just got back from riding my 08 FJR and the outside temperature read 108 degrees. I was roasting from engine heat blowing onto my feet and legs. Should the fairings be placed in the out or in position to get more of the engine heat away from the rider? Any other mods that would help with...

    Sighting - Henderson NV

I don't see many FJRs in the Vegas area. I have a 2008 AE, plus a 2006 GSXR1000. I'm enjoying not getting looked at so hard by the cops on my FJR. Cops hate sportbikes around here and are just itching to pull them over. Track days and Cali rides is all the sportbike sees now-a-days.

Replacing Heated Grips with aftermarket grips

Hmmmm, well, I guess grip puppies are in my future.

Replacing Heated Grips with aftermarket grips

I have the 2008AE and hate the rock hard grips. I have Driven Gel Grips on my GSXR and love them. I've never had heated grips before. Can I take them off and replace them with aftermarket grips? I really don't want to do the grip puppy thing because I'm really fond of the Driven gel grips...

    Handel Bar Adjustment 911!!!

I thought you were supposed to undo both sides at the same time before attempting to move the bolt to a new position, otherwise it won't budge. Dunno, just what I heard.

Installed radar detector plugged into glove box outlet

Okay, I just took the rubber drain plug out of the bottom and routed my detector wire through it. Now I can close the glove box, whew. Did I mention the rubber plug dropped in between the inner and outer fairing. Yep, had to take the inner fairing off to fish it out. Murphy's Law...

Installed radar detector plugged into glove box outlet

I mounted a Techmount center mount for my Escort Passport X50 and plugged it into the outlet in the glove box. It looks strange riding around with the glove box open in my opinion. Does anyone else utilize the glove box power outlet and drive around with it open, or do you use other options?

    Stripped oil pan threads

I changed the oil for the first time on my new 08 AE. I had to use a rubber hammer to break loose the drain plug. I don't use a torque wrench when tightening the oil drain bolt (steel into aluminum). I just use my instinct so I don't strip the threads, works for me. It seemed that Yamaha had...

    Cycle World picks the Connie

The C14 is too tall, especially if you have a passenger, and it roasts your legs. My friend had one and sold if after one riding season even with all the heat mods he did. The K13GT is an awesome bike, but overpriced for my taste. The ST is more outdated than the FJR and not near as sporty...

    Offical. Got my 2008

I ordered a new 2008 AE from a dealer in Pahrump (about 60 miles west of Las Vegas) for $10,900 before taxes and other fees. It's supposed to come in this week sometime. I think he said Yamaha was out of stock now on 08s, but maybe someone has one on the floor somewhere. Is that a good price...

    'uneven' tire wear

You'll get to the edge of your rear tire before the edge of your front. Completely normal.

    Electric Shift or Standard Shift?

Formula One race cars went to electric shift years ago and gave up the manual clutch. Nicky Haden never uses the clutch on his MotoGP bike, even for downshifts (at least that is what his Honda MotoGP mechanic said). I raced CCS and WSMC for years, but I'll give the electric shift a chance...

    Electric Shift or Standard Shift?

Thanks, I just needed a little reassurance. I'm going to go ahead and give it a chance. I've read good things. I think more sport touring bikes will go this direction in the future. I'm sure I'll quickly get used to it, and learn to love it.

    Electric Shift or Standard Shift?

I found a smoking deal on a brand new 08' electric shift. I have a friend that sells bikes and he just sold a used electric shift and he told me that he hated it. He said a bike without a clutch lever just didn't seem right. I've been riding street bikes since I was 16, I'm now 43, and I...
