Another FJR Visits the Tale of the Dragon

Now that it is settled, thought I'd follow-up on this line in the original post: "interacted with a Blount County Sheriff Deputy for a “fun tax”". First run on the Dragon was South to North. After stopping at the lookout for a quick debrief, we continued North. Thought we had timed things...

    Ride to Mt Lassen

Road, food, action and beer shots are all envy producing. Are we to take it the waitress was not a 20-something that matched the rest of the material? :ninja: Great RR - Thanks.

    The Waterfall Ride

Simply fantastic photography. All skill, I'm sure, but would you mind sharing what camera you used and how you carried it on the bike? Thanks. dnj

Another FJR Visits the Tale of the Dragon

Hi Gary, We stayed at the Microtel Inn (photo below). It is the only "chain" hotel in Robbinsville (it is locally owned). They have motorcycle-only parking right out front, towels, buckets, water, hose and cleaning supplies (for free!) for washing your bike, and have nearby trailer parking...

Another FJR Visits the Tale of the Dragon

Hi Redfish Hunter, I forget where that particular sign was, but I *think* it was on 28. However, here is a picture I *KNOW* is on 129 (at the TN/NC border headed south) that claims 129 is 12% in places (sorry the sign got cut off a bit, but I think you can tell the state thinks part of 129 is...

    "Southern Loop" from Robbinsville, NC

Hi all, A friend and I (he on a KLR 650 and me on an '08 FJR) are scheduled to be in Robbinsville, NC to do the traditional "Tail of the Dragon" bit. We plan for the first full day in that area (of two) to include hitting the Dragon at least once and then circling around North to Vonroe, on to...

    Ride Home

Congrats on the bike and sorry about the get-off. Your post is well timed for me. I'm less than a month and 3k into mine but have now caught myself relaxing during slow speed maneuvers, and while I'm getting better at them, obviously complacency is risky with the FJR, and I need to maintain...

Aug 28, 2010 - Adirondacks or Finger Lakes anyone?

In short, that I'd have a hard time sticking with guys who go 65+ in 55 zones. I have not had a speeding ticket in several decades, and hope to keep it that way.

    Day in the 'Dacks

Took a little spin through the Adirondacks today. Hints that the color is on its way, but mostly still green and vibrant. It was on the cool side at the start (lowest I saw was 48, but somehow that felt cold at, um, let's call it 55 MPH). Note to self: BRING the warm stuff. You don't have to...

Aug 28, 2010 - Adirondacks or Finger Lakes anyone?

Looks like I'm solo on this one. Weather looks like it will be perfect, and some "me" time will be very nice. The plan is to do a clockwise Adirondack loop hitting Old Forge, Lake Placid, Port Henry and Speculator (brief fuel stops and leg stretch at all but Port Henry; google maps clicky)...

Aug 28, 2010 - Adirondacks or Finger Lakes anyone?

Anyone near Central NY interested in a Adirondacks or Fingerlakes ride this Saturday (8/28/2010)? I need to be back in Hamilton by 4pm - Willing to have wheels rolling by 5am. Open to most anything, but a few limitations on my part... 1) I ride sober. 2) I ride the speed limit in towns /...
