As has been observed elswhere, their correct priorities are to focus on the riders and the IBR process. Spectators are a distant last, which is probably as it should be. It is a bit wierd though, that two weeks after the rally the ironbutt.com site is still offline saying "Due to the running...

Can't wait to see the points and the leg2 bonii. In the meantime, I entered the top 5 scored routes for leg1: This is just the Basecamp interpretation of the best route to join the bonuses claimed - not a record of the path traveled. A GPX file representing the data behind this snapshot is...

Thinking of moving to the FJR

Yeah, my wife loved the ST rear seat, especially once I bought the Russel Day Long. Especially with the rider backrest integrated with my Russel (a feature I intend to repeat on whatever I buy) the ST was pretty much at her front-to-back comfort limit. I still can't go with the wing, but have...

Wow, thanks everybody for great and spooky fast feedback! Ooops... yeah. Ahhhh... I think we approach the crux of the bisquit... If I were buyuing a 'Wing, or Honda still made the ST, I'd probably be calling Traxxion Dynamics and telling them to do the full monty on it. It sounds to me like...

Thinking of moving to the FJR

Folks: After 16 years or so on my '03 ST1300A I'm in the market for a new Sport Touring steed, and thinking of the FJR1300AS. Would appreciate some advice. Primary use would 2-up w/luggage multi-day trips. A distant secondary use is the occasional 1-up minor IBA ride. The wife and I are in...

I don't know... when I was looking at the numbers, I found the Yamaha points-per-rider perspective to be telling. And that was consistent whether you look at starters, finishers, or top 15. Even after you wash everything down with all imaginable variables. I haven't plugged the numbers in...

I agree with Twigg about the relative importance of mechanical failure. I do not include the Yamaha that replaced the failed Beemer, because that's really an exception to the data layout - and it only ran half a rally. Here's another couple of tables, the first showing DNF's, and the second...

OLYMPIC CALIBER NAVEL GAZING: Using the point system from MotoGP for the top 15 positions: (25-1, top weighted) The BMW is clearly the most popular mount, both among the big dogs and the field. And, percentage and points wise, it dominated the top 15. But in terms of points effectiveness...

Not sure how useful this is, but I was trying to produce another take on the animated "rubber band" theme. It didn't come out like I wanted, but here it is anyway.

Amen. I did an SS1000 on my wife's Ninjette a few years ago and it HURT. And that was with a Rojo Airhawk seat pad. I had planned to do a BBG1500 but had to pull the plug at 1000 miles - just could not do any more miles on that seat. Doing the IBR on a Ninja 250 is just mind boggling.

Grrrr... sorry, I had those links wrong in my previous post. They are now corrected in the quote above. I'll try to track down an admin to see how to correct the previous post.

Folks: I've updated and enhanced the "rubber band" maps for Checkpoint 1. They now show bonii and time zone borders. Unless you are trying to figure something out specifically, such as whether a particular rider has a prayer in hell of getting back in time, you'll probably prefer to look at...

Select the folder or list where you want the data to be stored (let's assume it's named "IBR"). Then either press CTL-i or click on the File menu and select "Import into 'IBR'". That will bring up an import file dialog box where you point it to the file. You don't need to download the file...

Folks: Here are some additional formats for the bonus data. Some of them have a code appended to the name, or a color assigned to the icon to indicate the type of time constraints. Legend at the bottom of the post. Here you go: GPX: https://RideToEat.com/ibr2015/IBR2015Bonii.gpx * CSV...

Here's a time map for Checkpoint 2. This one shows 10 hours from the barn with no penalty, plus 2 more hours for the penalty period. It's based on Streets & Trips estimate of drivetime to the checkpoint, with all of the speed sliders set to max. As before, take it with a grain of salt because...

Here are the Streets and Trips guesses at the drivetime zones at different offsets from the penalty time. This is with the speed sliders all max'd and obviously does not account for any stops or current conditions, so take it with a grain of salt. 10 Hours 9 Hours 8 Hours 7 Hours 6 Hours...

According to the late, lamented Streets&Trips, with all the speed sliders max'd out, these are the 10 and 12 hour drivetime zones to the checkpoint.

I haven't read any mention of a video crew, so I presume that there won't be a "Hard Miles 3" featuring the 2013 IBR. If that's the case, given that 2011 was skipped as well, does that mean we've seen the last of the "Hard Miles" series?
