    substitute O2 sensor

I'm not sure the replacement does work correctly, there is a lean surge when the engine isn't under much load, like 30mph in second gear. But the problem of running too rich hasn't been fixed yet, when that's done I'll let you know the part # if everything works. jim

NEED SOME HELP,, fuel injection problem

Gary, you can adjust and check the tps with the diagnostic code readout for the tps. throttle closed should be 14 to 17. The intake manifold pressure sensor is the same part as the atmospheric pressure sensor, interchangeable.

thanks for the suggestion, I purchased a Denso that fits.

NEED SOME HELP,, fuel injection problem

My 05 has a similar warm up problem-starts fine but the idle speed drop to where the motor stalls unless I manually keep the revs up until the engine is fully warm. My problem is a too rich fuel mixture causing carbon in the head. The compression is low, like 150, 70, 90 and 140. Once the...

    substitute O2 sensor

Anybody know of a sustitute 02 sensor for an 05 fjr? The Yamaha is priced at $285, made by Denso, comes with the 2 wire harness. thanks, Jim

Morning Ride Foiled - Bike Won't Start

I've had rough idling on warm up cycles followed by failure to start. It was due to low compression due to carbon in the head. If you still have the problem, I suggest you check the compression. Should be about 180lbs- with all plugs out and throttle wide open, and unplug the fuel pump.

Thread spin off about possible change to Rotella Diesel Oil

I posted this about a year ago: I used Shell Rotella non-sythetic oil in my Fjr for about 28,000 miles, from just after I bought it new in 2004. I live in Redding, Ca., hot in the summer. At ~25k mi the bike had a low speed bog or lack of power at under 1800 rpm. I couldn't solve the probem...

    Best tire for your buck

I got 9 k mi. out of a rear Dunlop Roadsmart, which was good because rears usually last 6 to 8 k. So I tried one on the front and it is done after 5k mi.--dissapointing. Prior to this I had a Michelin Road Pilot 2 on the front which went a excellent 10 k mi.--Worth the extra money. I'll be...

    oxygen sensor worn out?

Thanks for the replies and info guys. There is no problem with the bike's performance, so I'm going to forget about it. Jim

    oxygen sensor worn out?

My Yamaha mech told me the oxygen sensors on our bikes wear out in 20 to 30k miles. Mine has 37k mi. Anybody know what the effects of an out of specification oxygen sensor would be on the engine? Can any test be done to check the oxy sensor performance, like tialpipe readings? They list for...

    adjusting idle speed

thanks for the suggestions, i'll first check tha air bypass settings. If I mess around with it for awhile longer and can't bring it down I'll take it back to the dealer. I mentioned to the mechanic and he said to bring it back by. Jin

    adjusting idle speed

After having my head worked on (the bike's), the idle can't be lowered below ~1300 rpm, with the idle adjust screw backed out. I backed off the 4 idle stop screws (hex head and lock nuts) until they had ~5 thou clearance from the throttle linkage. The minimum idle is still ~1300. Anyone know...

    HELP!! with oil

Good advice Don, had I done that the new exhaust valves would have been unnecessary. It wouldn't have helped to remove the soot from the butterflies and throttle body tunnels. After this experience I'll run some SeaFoam once in awhile. The mechanic showed me a can and said it was good stuff...

    HELP!! with oil

The soot deposits on the airbox side of the butterflies are upstream of the fuel injectors, so that eliminates gas as a cause. I have no idea why I had the problem and others haven't.

    HELP!! with oil

I want to relate an experience I just had. I have an 05 with 29k mi. Have used Shell Rotella 20-40wt non-syn for 25k mi. At 24k mi. a low rpm bogging or lack of take off power developed, and a little later a stalling on warm up idle. Couldn't diagnose it myself, and one morning the bike...

    Compression loss

Synthetic or non? Could be it was something else that caused the carbon deposits on the valves and the soot in the throttloe body tunnels and on the butterflies. Perhaps there is an internal vapor baffle near the crankcase breather that is missing, but I saw nothing like that in the manual.

    Compression loss

I'm giving my experience, not attempting to explain things I have no experience with, that being other bikes and oils. If it makes no sense to you, that's no problemo for me.

    Compression loss

My bike is back together, and I've ridden it to Colorado from Cal and it runs great. After reassembly the compression was around 190 psi per cylinder so the rings are good, as they should be with only 29k miles. The problem was the use of Shell Rotella oil for about 27k miles. As I mentioned...

    Compression loss

Some interesting ideas. Excessive blowby would be worn rings, when the new exhaust valves are in and the compression is rechecked we'll see about that. The bike was dropped an its side about 4,000 miles ago because of the low speed power problem, my fault of course. What passage would have...

    Compression loss

I saw the head off the bike at the shop a few days ago, and the reason for the loss of compression was a suprise to say the least. It was the oil I've been using, Shell Rotella T 15-40 wt. The air box sides of the throttle body butterflies were coated with about 1/16 th of an inch of soot...
