    FJRF011: Fast Starter Syndrome

It worked. Thanks for the additional info. It took about 6 long pulls on the starter.  Now all back to normal.  Battery access is a PITA. I added an auxiliary cable to the positive side for quick access.

Will try WOT first, with my Antigravity battery hooked up as a backup. Thanks.

    FJRF011: Fast Starter Syndrome

Glad I found this thread.  Thanks for collecting the info and labeling it, making it easy to find, etc.  '05, 75k miles. I did a long trip earlier this summer without any incident.  After getting home, I commuted a few times on it.  Then it sat for a couple weeks, I started it once briefly...

Not at all. I'm sure it was a tough decision. Much respect for your efforts and for doing what you feel is best.

lol. You guys are a riot. In this video, I pass the rider filming @ 5:25: That's on Push Mountain Rd, aka AR341, south of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Other roads I've leaned on: 123 125 191 50 550 14 Chief Joseph Icefields Cassiar Only way you don't lean on roads like those is if...

    1. Poster: If I had to guess, based on that and the possible route proximity to many tall mountains, I'd say something along the lines of tallest peaks, scenic vistas, glaciers, waterfalls, and the like. Lots of that kind of thing up and down the Rockies could be included within hailing distance...

In for this year's rally. And I have an FJR now. I picked up Hotboot's '05 a few weeks ago. Fiona. She's been well taken care of. I'm not ready for any rallying but doing plenty of LD riding. Heading to Alaska next month. Thanks to all who make this a great place to watch the IBR.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that at least half the riders do not have a master plan, and have basically just said, "Screw it, I'm going to go ride and have fun." Why do I say this? 1. Word problems are hard. Most people struggle with them. 2. From a computational perspective...

danalipps, I think you are Erik Lipps's wife. If not, please forgive me. If so, I want to share these pics I took of your son in Albuquerque in 2015. His reaction absolutely made my day and made the ride I did to see the finish so worth it: The one Toby took of Erik holding him a few...

    2017 Iron Butt Rally

Another biannual visitor checking in. I'm in Wichita, have plenty of garage space, trailers, tire changer, and tools. Anyone coming through that needs a lift, a hand with something, a new tire, or whatever, don't hesitate to get in touch. I'll be out of town part of the time but mrs. grommet...

For those who change tires at home?

I don't have a NoMar. Coats 220 instead. I use Pledge Lemon Clean for lube. Both sides of both beads. It works great. No NoMar helper tools, so I use a tie-down ratchet with a length of the tie-down webbing going around the tire and rim to hold the beads tight into the middle of the rim...

I'd wager that for a route hitting those landmarks, the solution was pretty good. It's not the same problem as a minimum distance 48/10. I suspect that if you picked a set of points along your route and used them as waypoints, the solution would look very similar to the actual route you chose...

A wandering ramble through the American South West. Part 1 - Southern Utah and Part 2 - Colorado and New Mexico.

If I was going from Grand Junction to Albuquerque, and had 3 days to do it, I'd do this route. 1100 miles of some of the greatest roads anywhere. If I had 5 or 6 days, I'd turn it into a 1900 mile mountain odyssey with this and this. On the other hand, you could take the shortest route, which...

NM 4 from 550 north to Los Alamos is very nice the entire way. Not quite as twisty on the lower end near 550, but very picturesque, with beautiful views of red & blue mesas. One thing to be aware of is that the part that is inside the Jemez Pueblo reservation has a max speed limit of 40. When...

Great pics and ride report. I rode out to the IBR finish, then followed some of the same roads you did going north from there. I'm sure you recognize this: And June 2014 I and a couple of friends did another trip, including NM 64, the ride up to Lake City, Black Canyon, 133, and 550 south...

Electronics (GPS) and Vibration on Bike

Both correct. Mostly. Some surface mount (SMT) parts do have leads that extend from the part to a surface pad on the PCB, some do not. But in either case, cyclic flexing of the PCB itself can gradually cause cracks in the solder joints. A crack will lead to an intermittent open circuit, then...
