It worked for a while with no password. I was just talking to Joe a minute ago. I had to disconnect and when I went back it asked for a password. :( Mick

    Altitude surging on 07 fix

Jestal, Thanks for an EXCELLENT description of the problem! I've been involved with large system processors for 30 years and your explanation of how fast the CPU can read/adjust the FI tables is right on. I too wondered if they moved the BARO sensor 'inside' the ECU housing (just like BMW...

2007 Iron Butt Rally - Official Daily Reports

According to Matt Parkhouse, Chris's drive line failure is the Transmission and not the final drive. He's at our shop in Colorado Springs.? It's the gearbox - a diagnostic oil drain got a LOT of metallic debris.... We're looking at options now.... Matt Parkhouse

    immediately shuts down - why?

Frank, At this point I'd probably disassemble the right switch gear assembly and look for a broken or shorted wire. Does it quit like you flipped the kill switch off? Those contacts CAN get dirty.

    Altitude surging on 07 fix

Del, I think you are correct in most of your assumptions but I hope Yamaha isn't working on a solution for a minor surge problem. This (when it happens) is an almost total loss of throttle control. I also believe it is an overly RICH condition and not a lean condition. Most riders who have...

Take this for what its worth

You are correct Gary. I was mistaking that part as a modulator for the vacuum signal. Mick

Take this for what its worth

JC, I agree, they 'may' have to add some of the removed hardware to get the bike to perform properly in changing altitudes. Mick

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

Does anyone who is having the problem have some kind of video recorder? Maybe set up some kind of helmet cam so the video can show that no funny business is happening with the throttle while the bike is surging. That would be at least one bit of video proof that it is happening. I have an 07...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

Chris M. Since you are the service manager here: https://www.adventuremotorsports.net/default.asp I sincerely hope you are not trying to say a Throttle Body Sync is the answer to this Altitude problem. When the problem actually surfaces, the bike is almost unrideable. My riding buddy could...

    Attention Yamaha Folks

Al, I 'think' what you have found (assuming you can reproduce the failure reliably) is the 'bug' in their ECU program. Maintaining High manifold Vacuum (or low pressure as you described it :) ) 'could' overwhelm the programming that is watching the MAP and trying to convert it to Barometric...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

Gary, Just adding to what Al wrote above, you MIGHT have a different set of problems and rideability issues if you kill a sensor or two. Try it. These bikes are only running in 'closed loop' mode for a very small part of their duty cycle. It doesn't happen until the engine load has been...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

JC, That is the problem......the ECU does NOT go to any 'default' mode since it does NOT think it has a problem. To fix the problem it's going to take a dedicated technician with some good data aquisition tools to actually 'capture' a failure. It's already been proven that replacing the ECU...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

JC, It's not a TOO RICH condition, it is total loss of FI control. It's either 'off the map' or totally confused as to exactly how it should handle the current input data. The CO setttings are similar on a lot of bikes but they are not going to cause or fix this problem. Most all of the...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

Jay, Is this YOU? :) I was about to contact Don C. to see if you had fixed your problem. I think you are masking the problem by limiting the HIGH vs LOW vacuum signal. Maybe it doesn't fault as much because you are not hitting the threshold it takes to surface the problem. I DO think...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

Al, They only deleted one sensor, the Pressure sensor up by the ECU and the pressure regulator. The same pressure sensor P/N is used for Gen1 or GenII bikes. Mick/
