I did the Tail of the Dragon and the Skyway this weekend. Can't remember having that much fun. We spent the entire Sunday in the rain, but it was a great time and well worth the trip.

I can't say enough about what the 400 mile trip did for me. The one thing I will say is "I love my FJR"....omg, what a good time. Oh, and I didn't loose money at the Casino...lol.

I would have been happy for a 400 mile trip home yesterday. 10 hours of cold and rain. Got home at 23:45 and crashed after I ate something and took a shower and unpacked the bike. Great NAFO only;y 3 performance awards given out and we did loose another bike. We lost an 03. Another original left us for the great scrap yard in the sky. Ride is fine and only had a small cut to show for it.

You know, the numbing issue with the grips was directly proportional to the time I owned the bike. I did put "grip puppy" type of covers on it, and it is nice, but I really think I'm just "relaxed" with it now. I don't notice the numbing as much.

Now, putting the grips over the heated grip kind of limits the heat a bit, but it was awesome in the mountains anyways. When we stopped, the guys without heated grips were holding mine to warm up their hands...rofl.

My only issue now, is that my left grip broke loose and turns a bit. Tried throwing some white rain in there, but I need to take the grip off and coat the whole bar. Of course with as much rain as we were in, not sure that wouldn't have broken loose anyways.

I'm guessing taking the hex bolt out would allow me to take the grip off, but turning that hex is a trick. I don't want to break anything trying to put "sticky stuff" on the bar.

What happened to the 03 FJR? Did it or go down? Small Cut doesn't sound good at all. Hope you're ok? I'm sorry to hear about that. Moment of silence for the 03....

Just read the post...wow....glad no one was hurt...

Good for you! its a great ride, especially the 1st run :)

I remember the first time we rode the Dragon - spent 4-5 hours going back & forth on it :yahoo: it never gets old!

The Dragon is fun, but I think the Cherohala is where the FJR really shines!

I was there two weekends ago, and yes what a blast. Good weather but slow cruisers everywhere.

I also turned my OK rear tire into a slick.

Agreed.

Heather (wife) and I went down two weeks ago Sunday-Wednesday and stayed in Tellico Plains. We rode Cherohala twice and went through Robbinsville and across the Dragon once just to bum around in PF for a bit.

First off, we met a lot of really great people and also ran into a small group of other Feej riders (WHO KNEW!! I've yet to see another FJR here in central Ky, it was awesome to share a little camaraderie and see real farkles up close) and I'll second the vote for the Cherohala.

We had a lot more fun on the 50'ish MPH sweepers than we did on the switchbacks of the Dragon. I had brake fade issues from the constant 20-50-20mph for 318 curves... just wasn't as fun.

One funny thing... we really felt like were getting good use out of the PR2s and getting pretty low until I saw my killboy pic... lol.. she's got a lot more to give.

Those pictures are always the equalizers. I thought I was close to touching my knee last year on my SV-1000 and I looked like I was barely off my bike.

Brakes? I thought that was what gears were for? :p

I also enjoy Cherohala more than the Dragon...

I saw another fellow on there who had an FJR, pulled up next to me at Deal's. It was an 06. I asked him if he was on the forum, but he said no. Perhaps he'll hook up here.

One thing he had, that I thought was "AWESOME", was a replacement for his backseat that was like a large "glove compartment"....I WANT ONE!

I'm still waiting on Saturday's Killboy pics. Wonder if they only update once a week or ? Looking for this Saturday around 3:30pm est. I got a cramp in my hip on one of the turns, OMG, that fing hurt. I'm hoping I don't look like dying monkey, hanging off the bike with my cramp...rofl.

Probably a Corbin Smuggler. Pretty interesting looking units.

Killboy doesn't seem to update as frequently as he used to.. a couple times a week, it seems. But it ALSO looks like he's snapping a lot more pics. I think he used to 'categorize' his pics by the hour and he's not doing that anymore either (at least, I couldn't find that info), but I didn't have a lot of problem finding my pics. He was about 3 days behind on my pass through. You can sign up to be emailed a notification when your day's pics are posted.

Definately looking into the Corbin Smuggler. That thing was pretty cool....UPDATE!!! $800 ......UM, yeah, looked great....ON HIS BIKE....no way in h3ll i'm paying $799 for a glovebox...ouch. They are mighty proud of that box.

Yeah, I don't see times on the pics priors, but I had heard that he used to, and why I noted my time I went through.

Yep, use a lower gear than you usually would to run the Dragon, use all the engine compression that you can and use the brakes sparingly. I keep the RPM's hovering around 5,000.

yeah, definitely good advice but I'm still getting used to the sheer torque of this thing and wanted to make it as smooth a ride through for my wife as I could... gets a little twitchy in 2nd at 5k ;)
