Sorry, but that is total bunk. All LEOs are different, so it is possible having a radar detector may have an effect on whether a ticket is written, but more than likely than not, it won't. And I get this wisdom from having many friends that are LEOs and having done ride-alongs. Your attitude/demeanor and not lying will have the most impact on whether its a friendly chat or a performance award. Still, just in case, when I have ....errr.....uhhh.....had the pleasure of a friendly conversation with "The Man", I simply quickly take off my gloves and put them over the radar detector before he even gets out of his car. Has worked like a charm on many occasions. As for my previous statement of the H.A.R.D. system eating $$$ batteries - that comes from several users who like FJRmogul, "forget" to turn the transmitter off repeatedly. A fairly expensive proposition. The system does work, however, so does the Marc Parnes visual alert (which I have and use occasionally). Neither are ideal, IMHO, audible alert is really the best way to go. Eyes don't have to leave the road, and immediately you know what band of radar you are receiving, and the strength. And this comes from *years* of using radar detectors.
