Extended date GB information for anyone who may still want a radar detector.

I have gotten email from people who still want in, even though I am no longer accepting funds for the GB. I called Jack at Escort, and he is willing to offer the discounted pricing for another month (End of April), for anyone who wants in. I will not be part of this, you must call him directly and work it out between yourselves.

Props to Escort for the extended GB discount!

The extended GB date will not impact the delivery schedule of the original GB players.

You need to call Escort direct at 800-433-3487 ex. 8532 and speak to Jack. He will be our point of contact for this GB. Tell him exactly what you want, he will give the total, then mail me a check for the amount including a description of what you want. I will be placing the entire order for everyone as soon as I get back into town (around March 8th) so this gives everyone time to contact Escort and snail mail me a check.

All individual orders will be shipped directly from Escort, all of your order information will be retained by Escort, under a sales number that escort will provide to me at the time of the order. I will obviously pass this on when I get it. This is more work for me than I really wanted, but hey it helps everyone's pocket including mine, so I'm prepared to do a little ground work here.

Jack is available Mon-Wed and Fri afternoon eastern during their business hours.

Examples of discounts:

Passport X50 red L.E.D. could be shipped to your door for $269.98.

Add the 2 year extended warranty for a total of 3years $299.95

MSRP for the red L.E.D. X50 is $299.95

Damn you, Skyway! Damn you! Here I though I was safe from additional farkles! Eh, fook it, the county can wait for their tax payment... I'm in.

I haven't paid for my Wilbers yet!!!

I want one. Maybe it will take a month or two to get this going so my wallet can catch up.

Farkles are bad!! :aaevil:

And always remember: Money 'aint worth a damn thing until you spend it! :D

I should also point out one other thing. Escort offers a full refund in 30 days or something. If say we have 10 players and 1 drops out for a refund, the discount goes bye bye.

So the Passport X50 red L.E.D. could be shipped to your door for $269.98.
Cheaper than 1 speeding ticket (the way I roll). Count me in (for a second one for the car. Too much hassle moving it back and forth). Don't forget, every Escort includes a bonus free voltmeter!

Radar detectors have got to be one of the most cost-effective farkles for a bike. That is if yours has a tendency to exceed the speed limit naturally, as some have been known to do ;)

If you don't have a good headphone set up, consider the wireless, heads-up led system that Legalspeeding.com has. I've got one and wouldn't get on the road without it or the detector. But then I like to avoid tickets and increased insurance premiums.

Blue, are you speaking of the H.A.R.D. system? It has been criticized due to "Eating through expensive batteries" According to the published info- "You can ride for 120 hours, which can be as much as 4,000 miles, between battery changes."

So, what is your experience with it? What kind of batteries does the receiver use? Do you get that kind of life out of them? Thanks in advance.

Sky,

I was just thinking that the last time I bought a Passport radar detector gasoline was about 82 cents a gallon, I was about 25 lbs lighter, I still had a wife, The Man didn't use Laser radar and motorcycles were either standards or cruisers, but believe it or not the thing still works....a testament to their superior quality. In the interest of moving into the age of modern electronics, however, I will commit to be in on the proposed group buy.

I've got to stop looking in the accessory forum

Anyone want to buy a 3 year old passport used only on Sundays?

I'd go for a group buy on a new one.

I've used the H.A.R.D. system for about 2 years now and I'm a happy camper. It uses 2 lithium 2032 batteries and they last for a couple of weeks of riding 6 hours a day. Thats not as good as they say, but it also depends on how often the unit goes off, and if you remember to turn it off after each ride (I forget alot!). The batteries are expensive if you buy them one at a time ($4.50 each) but I buy them here batteries? in bulk for about $1.50 including shipping.

The $$ I've saved on speeding tickets far outweighs the cost of the batteries :D .

Also I keep my detector hidden in my tank bag out of sight. If you get stopped by the LEO and he sees your detector you are not going to get a warning...you WILL get a ticket :(

Sorry, but that is total bunk.

All LEOs are different, so it is possible having a radar detector may have an effect on whether a ticket is written, but more than likely than not, it won't. And I get this wisdom from having many friends that are LEOs and having done ride-alongs. Your attitude/demeanor and not lying will have the most impact on whether its a friendly chat or a performance award.

Still, just in case, when I have ....errr.....uhhh.....had the pleasure of a friendly conversation with "The Man", I simply quickly take off my gloves and put them over the radar detector before he even gets out of his car. Has worked like a charm on many occasions.

As for my previous statement of the H.A.R.D. system eating $$$ batteries - that comes from several users who like FJRmogul, "forget" to turn the transmitter off repeatedly. A fairly expensive proposition. The system does work, however, so does the Marc Parnes visual alert (which I have and use occasionally). Neither are ideal, IMHO, audible alert is really the best way to go. Eyes don't have to leave the road, and immediately you know what band of radar you are receiving, and the strength. And this comes from *years* of using radar detectors.

Transmitter or receiver? I would imagine the transmitter would be powered by the same source as the detector. Or does it require batteries as well?

My bad. It's the helmet mounted receiver. You are correct-a-mundo kind sir.

Its easy to think "I" won't forget to turn it off, but just about everybody I talk to who owns the system does. :(
