I just had my '03 in for a general/valve service check @ 35k miles and was pleased with the results with the help of a great Top Tech Yamaha serviceman, Ashley Knight who happens to own a FJR +++. His Yamaha Award Page https://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/fivestar/toptech.aspx

Finding him was a relief, since I have had bad experiences in the past with incompetent/no-care types in motorcycle shops. He was exactly the opposite and very helpful while being reassuring.

My valves were in spec, compression was 223-225lbs across the 4 cylinders, however, he did replace the cam chain tensioner through the YES program. He also changed the plugs, antifreeze, checked the rear spline and suspension, and installed my new rear tire all for $262 at Metro Cycles in West Atlanta.

I am now relieved some of the engine noises were of the cam chain and not the valve and amazed on how much smoother it runs...could not believe it could be better!

So if anyone would like to know of a great technician in West Metro Atlanta, this would be a good choice.

And Thanks to Yamaha for their engineering and backing through Y.E.S., we have a lot to be proud of!!

Ashley is a good friend of mine and he is a great mechanic, Any time I have a question he has an answer. He also has a web site that he post's he rides and trips on, www.yamatech2003.com . I think he is going to California in June to the Top Tech competition and if he is in the top 3 Yamaha sends him to Japan for a competition there.
