Back into the fold

I've been without an FJR since selling my '05 about 18 months ago and just riding locally on my little Triumph R3. I recently looked at maybe getting a Tiger Explorer 1200 for trips since it has electronic cruise, but then it dawned on me that so does the 2013+ FJR and it's a much more of a smooth, refined bike. Hmmmmm.

Having owned and enjoyed Gen 1 and Gen 2 FJRs (one of each), I started the hunt and quickly found a '13 with some useful farkles and 5K on the clock a few hours away (link below). Picking it up tomorrow morning. Now I'll have to regretfully part with the Triumph which has given me lots of grins (2300cc does that easily) and trouble-free service.

I'm a returnee to the clan as well. After 2 1/2 years I also returned to the fold. I'm on FJR #4 and think I appreciate the bike even more after riding another brand. No regrets! Beautiful bike you found there!

Thanks guys. We drove to Ft. Worth early this morning (too early according to the wife) to get the bike. The seller was the sort of guy that you really want and hope to buy a pre-owned bike from. He's a middle-aged (like me) bike guy that obviously takes very good care of his machines. Except for the 5200 miles on the odometer, the bike looked and rode like new in every respect. I wasn't sure if I'd like this particular model of Corbin saddle, but it turned out that I really do. I guess the 100-140 miles I spend sitting on a road bike (the kind you pedal) saddle has made me used to some firm support.

The only disappointment (I knew about this ahead of time) is that the darn cruise tops out at 82. On some portions of I-20 with the 75mph speed limit, you need a few more mph to keep you up with the flow of traffic.

Damn you..... I was the guy that was calling about the bike while you were signing the paperwork at Jeffs house.... Back to looking! Jeff seemed like a very nice guy. Great looking bike with some nice add-ons. Enjoy.

Sorry Rex. Fortunately, you live in a good place to find another one. They hardly ever come up for sale close to Tyler. That afternoon ride home in full gear was a bit warm.

I've just yesterday ordered the parts to install the "DaJudge Flashing LED 3rd Brake Light" mod on my new 2014. After having it on my '05 FJR and '04 Vstrom for the past bunch of years, I just don't feel right without one back there. Your good work lives on!

The LIN3/3rd Brake Light came in very handy Labor day morning while riding rear escort for a group of my bicycling buddies doing a breakfast ride to Edom, TX. Much of the route was 2-lane country road (called farm-market roads here) with lots of blind hills and a 60mph speed limit (which in TX means close to 70). I ran the yellow e-blinkers constantly plus lightly applied the brakes to strobe vehicles approaching from the rear. All of them slowed way down and passed safely around the group.
