Actually cmmf, 2009 BMW R1200GS is a brand new machine with zero miles and they'll sell it out the door for $16K flat, like all of the BMW dealers in the Southwest!

Most importantly, you can get a BMW R1200GS here in the US. At this point in time, Yamaha really doesn't give a rat's ass if they'll sell the Super Tenere here or not!

OK, I didn't read the whole ad -- just saw the price. :blink: :(

Regardless, it's a non-current (a discontinued model) -- let's compare apples to apples (unless you're into old machinery...?).

Most importantly, you can get a BMW R1200GS here in the US. At this point in time, Yamaha really doesn't give a rat's ass if they'll sell the Super Tenere here or not!
They (Yamaha) probably would (give a rat's ass) if you BMW-types would give them $20+K for the privelege...! :eek: :)

BMW's price is directly proportional to their owner's egos -- has little relation to machinery (IMO)... :rolleyes:

Why don't we try to keep this "on track" about the Tenere.....

.....and start a separate thread to berate the BMW mechanical problems, price policy and some of the owner's/dealer's attitudes.

 
Back on the Super Tenere and the topic of the left side (radiator assembly) fall down go boom situation. Check the accessories already on the Yamaha site for the bike. One is a full engine/fairing guard tube like assembly that looks a lot like what I'm accustomed to seeing as an aftermarket accessory for KLRs, etc.

I've got confidence in Yamaha not coming to this niche of the market with anything other than a state of the art Adventure bike. Heavy, low center of gravity, not inexpensive, lots of accessories available already for its intended use and probably able to hold its own against that competition regardless of price. Lotsa reasons I'd choose Yamaha over BMW or KTM even if it were exactly the same bike. I'd probably go with a man strom or a wee strom over either of those for the same reasons. But that's me and my preferences.

Tomorrow I'll be at the Montreal bike show to talk to Yamaha about CFR, let me see if I can get any info on the 1200 or the 660 coming over to Canada

Yep, Comes with center stand... looks much more beefy than then even the FJR's........ NOT BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT ! lol lol

First edition will come with bags, head light guard, 'special' sticker, all the electric guru special stuff, Etc. Etc...... I have read there is going to be a striped down model later, that is going to be cheaper and comes with no goodies..... As you anyone can see in my first post I really like this bike and I have already spent TOO MUCH TIME :) :) reading and learning about this bike.

IMOP, the bike we all see now is going to be the "middle of the road model".... This is to get one out to the most people NOW..... Later we know there will be a less expensive one with no 'extras'.... Again, IMOP there will be a model in the "high end range" like the "GSA" (BMW phrase) that will have a bigger tank, knobby tires, extra goodies, Etc..... It WILL be the same price as the BMW GSA or even more........ BUT, by the time that comes out (year or more) people around the world will have read ALL the reviews and many people around the word will already own the "first addition Tenere"..... At that point the Yamaha's "High-end-model", allthough very expensive it will SELL IT SELF ! So, in the end there will be a Low-Med-High priced Yamaha Tenere so people can by what they need and can afford.......... Things to look forward too........................

For me....... Get the darn thing over here ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW ! :) :)

Except for the ABS and shaft drive, the DL1000 would do the highway miles just as good and do the same type of offroad stuff too. At maybe just under half the cost. I think I could put a new chain and sprockets on about every 25,000 mi. for that kind of savings. Wish the Zuke had ABS for the road though.

If they're believable? Things like weight, price, and horsepower are all, often, open to debate -- depending on where those numbers are sourced and derived... :unsure:

Still, choosing a motorcycle 'by the numbers' can be fraught with conflict/abuse -- and, maybe?, especially for a bike that may be considered for some dirt work? How the power is delivered: engine design, balance, and delivery of power pulses can be critical for traction and all-around dirt capability.

I'm not saying that any bike in Hell for Leather's list of numbers is better or worse (especially off-road) -- but that a bike's goodness or otherwise needs to be ridden to be evaluated.

Still..., figures don't lie. (but liars figure) ;)

I called the doctor three times already for my 'problem'... The day it came out on the web I couldn't leave my desk all day !!!! LOL

For me, long story short, Ive liked BMW GSA for many years. I'm in the bike business and tired of the bling bling and want to do the ADV thing. Ive been contemplating the BMW but dont really want to go that route. Im kinda a Yamaha type of guy. Ive done other things with Yamaha over the years and like the Company.. Now that they have a bike that is very much 'like' the BMW I would MUCH rather support that Company and ride there new bike.... And for me I like the looks of the new TENERE much better...... Anyhow, I dig the new bike.... LOL Duuuuuuu :)

I dont think it will be half price..... I THINK that if the Tenere comes here its in the ball park of the FJR...;-)

One thing I have been wondering ? Maybe someone can think about this aswell..... The GS does not come with bags or any frame structure to hold the bags stock...(or many of the other parts that the Yamaha does come with) So, if they are comparing Stock VS Stock (weight) then this is my question......... They are weighing the GS with NO bags and no luggage frame because it does not come with the bike 'stock'... They Yamaha DOES come with bags and the frame work and so its considered 'stock'.... So If im correct they are not 'really' measuring apples to apples.... What they are doing is measuring what the bike comes with VS what the bike comes with........ not really the same thing.

Does this make sense..... its beginning to look as if the Yamai is getting a bad wrap for being heavy because they have the bags installed and included in the PRICE AND WEIGHT...... Funny thing is too, if you where to add BMW bags to the 'stock' GS it will add allot of weight to the GS and $$$.... When talking about the EST. price.... (not directed to you/just in general:) the Yamaha comes with wide foot pegs, BMW does not.. you can add those for $150.00 The Yamaha comes with hand guards, the BMW does not, you can add those for $170. The BMW does not come with bags and brackets, the Yamaha does... The BMW (cheep bags..they have two types) bags are $1481.80 Its just not apples to apples.

So to these "Magazines", I think have this a bit 'tilted' as a new playa ! ALREADY ! LOL

EVERYONE will like what they like.... No problem :) :) Everyone buys what they want and need.... other than that I think we all love motorcycles and that's why where here !!!!

I like this new blue, fat, heavy, under powered, turd ! ALOT ! BBbbwwwwhahhahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa LOL !
